Applying: There was heavy pressure to sign a lease BEFORE actually seeing the apartment I would be living in. However, after asking to see the actual apartment I would be living in, it was shown to me with no problems.

Staff/Maintenance: The staff has always been helpful with great customer service each of the 4 or 5 times I ve needed to actually have contact with them. Maintenance, however, is a little different. I ve never had contact with maintenance as they normally visit my apartment while I am at work. They show up within the same day I call, however, things never seem to get fixed correctly.

Dog poop and overall outside: It s true, tenants let their dogs go anywhere and do not clean it up. Tenants also like to leave trash and cigarette butts on the ground as well. Only one time have I ever seen Keenland Krest address this issue. It was a flyer requesting tenants to report to the office any instance in which another tenant is polluting: dog poop, trash, etc. The outside of the buildings are very nice. Again, the plants outside my apartment have been dead since I moved in early summer. There are patches of missing grass in the yard as well as huge chunks of earth missing from standing water. The trash bins are always overflowing and trash bags that will no longer fit are just lying around them.

Parking: I wouldn t say there is much of it in my area of the complex. If someone moves out, there are always spaces available. However, when a place has all houses filled, you will know it. You must learn to be home at a certain time or you will be parking a little further away.

Safety: I have never had my car nor my apartment touched by anyone trying to thieve or assault me or my property. I feel sorry for those around me who cannot say the same thing, however, I have not heard of any crime in this area other than previous posts. I like to use the gym facility at night, and though there is a huge lack of lighting outside, I have had no problems walking to and from my apartment.

Inside: The floor plan is pretty nice and original. The kitchen is small, but I never use it that much so it hasn t been a problem. The storage facility in the patio has been very handy. The walls must be VERY thin as I OFTEN hear other tenant s televisions, radios, and NORMAL VOICE CONVERSATIONS. This distraction has become so normal that I cannot hear the interstate right next to the complex!

My problems: The usual tenant should expect to come across a few problems and all problems are different. I would now like to explain some of the problems I ve had. These may not be problems in every house. Firstly, upon moving in, the apartment wasn t quite cleaned completely. The floors were dirty, there were strange water spots in EVERY counter, and there were CRUMBS inside the drawers. Even the bathroom drawers had food crumbs. We contacted the office and the cleaning people came. We ended up cleaning our apartment ourselves after this was never cleaned.

The dishwasher has never really been centered as if it doesn t fit straight into the counter allowing the door to open at an awkward angle. And whenever the dishwasher is in use, it makes the apartment smell like dead fish. It took us a while to find out where the smell was coming from.

The refrigerator had a weird water leak and every day there would be a puddle on the bottom shelf. This took maintenance a few tries to fix. The refrigerator light likes to stop working completely and FALL out of the refrigerator and hang down onto food items. Maintenance never could fix this. Scotch tape is now holding the light to the top of the refrigerator to keep the bulb off of our food and we now use the kitchen light when using the refrigerator.

The unit has a washer and dryer in it, however, for the longest time I wondered why my clothes were always filled with lint. I realized it was because the dryer was FILLED with mounds of lint from the previous tenants. This lint was never cleaned out. There is also a towel shoved way back above the washer from a previous tenant. This just proves that the entire washer/dryer area was never cleaned before we moved in. The towel remains in its place and I have cleaned most of the lint out of the dryer myself.

The water heater area is the filthiest thing in the entire apartment. We keep the door closed and don t look in there. It was filthy before we moved in and it will stay that way when our lease is up and we move. Luckily we have had no problems with the water heater.

The toilet runs EVERY 5 MINUTES. This has never been fixed by maintenance. Their solution was to jiggle the handle whenever the toilet runs . I choose to listen to my neighbor s music to distract me from my toilet running. I also choose not to walk into my bathroom to jiggle the handle every 5 minutes.

There have been some strange leaks. Maintenance was called because the bathroom sink would begin to leak from the pipes below if the sink was filled halfway. Maintenance failed to fix it and now we must watch how far the sink fills up. There is also a puddle of water on the bathroom floor near the toilet that arrives every day. Maintenance has no idea where the leak is coming from. There is now some mold growing near the shower from a similar leak. Thankfully there have been no other mold issues.

Overall, I would not recommend this complex based on my experiences. The Southside is a great area and Keenland Krest is right near anything you will need: Highway, grocery stores, gas stations, etc. However, this apartment has been nothing too great and I will be leaving when my lease ends. The monthly rent is way too high considering all of the problems I ve had not fixed.

just a heads up...you won't get your deposit back. they will use the problems you have had since you moved in and claim you caused them.
