Smoked out of this place....

After reading stories about gunshots and group rapes, I have to say I'm pretty relieved to have gotten out when I did from Lake Castleton....my problems were comparatively mild. I was using it as a temporary place closer to work until my house on the southside sold so I would be closer to my new job. I didn't stay there every night...I kind of used it like a hotel, just staying when I didn't want to do the full hour long drive to my house. It actually was a fine studio apartment, and surprisingly I didn't have trouble with noise, but I kept getting headaches from smoke coming over from other apartments. I couldn't get rid of this with air purifiers and even keeping the windows cracked open. Management did try to "seal around the pipes" but said unfortunately there wasn't a way to really prevent it. They shot down my suggestions of designating certain buildings "smoke free", which has been done successfully in other states, so I moved out and payed the ridiculous fee for breaking my lease...I figured it was still cheaper than trying to get a lawyer involved. I've never had a problem with that much smoke coming through anyplace else I've lived, but I feel really sorry for people who are trapped in a place like that if they can't afford to get out. I found out that none of the apartments in Indianapolis care to try to designate smoking and non-smoking buildings (like hotels and apartments in other cities do), so it will probably be one more thing we'll have to make a law about before it gets done. For being an older complex, it is otherwise actually pretty nice, but unfortunately you can't choose the people who live around you, and this place has some bad ones.
