If you're looking for a decently priced, safe, and comfortable place to live, stay away from Lake Castleton. Trust me. I lived here all through college and lived in several units (first a small one-bedroom and later a large one-bedroom with my fiance). I kept hoping that things would get better, but they never did. Don't make the same mistake I did.
This place is a nightmare. The office staff does not care at all when tenants are doing terrible things, such as: leaving stinky trash in the common hallway, getting arrested on complex property, provoking constant noise complaints, transferring leases without warning the office (which is exactly what my upstairs neighbors did and the staff did NOT kick them out despite the fact that this rule is clearly stated in the lease), or even having a police raid in their unit (including plain-clothes police officers and big dogs). We told the staff all of this and they did almost nothing. They would occasionally drop off a letter asking them to be quiet, but what good is that really going to do'
The minute the staff found out about the police raid, these people should have been gone, but of course they were permitted to stay and cause more trouble because the staff is clearly negligent. This is exactly why this complex has so many problems with crime. It's as if all these ladies want to do is stay in the office and bat their eyelashes at the FedEx guy. It's really ridiculous.
There's also a huge problem with people letting their dogs run unleashed throughout the complex. This is not only unsafe for all the kids who live here, it's also dangerous for the dogs themselves. People allow their animals to walk unleashed as if the whole complex were their backyard--did they ever stop to realize that their dog is in danger from all the crazy drivers that zoom through the place like they are in the 500'
Seriously--STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE. Don't make the same mistakes I made. I thought that I was being smart by saving a paltry forty dollars a month by moving to Lake Castleton rather than another complex down the street. The aches, pains, and stress were not worth it. I stayed at this complex for three years because I kept hoping things would get better when I transferred to a bigger unit, but the truth is, this complex will NEVER be pleasant or safe until the management staff decides to crack down on tenants who are inconsiderate and break the rules of their lease. Instead, the management staff seems preoccupied with just getting that rent check, even if they are losing money in the long run because people keep moving to get away from the noise and the police raids.
This complex is absolutely awful. It's a shame, because the apartments and grounds are not bad. They are just about average, but there is more to an apartment than the four walls that surround you. So much of one's experience has to do with the courtesy (or lack thereof) of their neighbors. The office staff is completely unwilling to do anything about excessive noise, the breaking of clearly stated lease rules, or even police raids. That is why Lake Castleton gets such a scathing review from me. I thank God every day that my husband and I are out of there.

I work in another complex on the eastside, and would like to inform everyone that it is very hard to evict someone on conduct charges with out hard proof (such as a police report). Most courts in eviction cases are pro-tenant, so if the tenant fights the eviction they could win unless the management has every fact backed up with hard evidence. Most people do not realize the burdens of property management and I'm trying to help our fellow properties in the Indianapolis area.

I understand where you're coming from. In most cases, tenants being loud and disorderly would not be grounds for eviction, but in the case of my neighbors, the police were there multiple times and I have no doubt that there was a police report for at least one incident (particularly the police raid). If the management had been interested enough in the goings-on inside their complex, they would have pursued this matter. Instead, Lake Castleton chose not to do so.
