Would you like your car caught on fire or held at gun point'

I have lived here for a short period of time and will be moving ASAP. Due to the recent and significant amount crime in the apartment complex I am leaving. It's not a safe place for anyone to live, especially if you are living alone. Thankfully I have wonderful neighbors who will look out for one another when things around here seem sketchy. The frequent car break ins and most recently the arson that took place in a car port destroying numerous cars and a portion of one of the buildings is something to be concerned about. Just last night a couple was held at gun point as a group of young men threatened their lives and stole their car. I believe that the locks should be changed on the building that the criminals have access to immediately. I also strongly emphasize the issue that security needs to be more prevalent throughout the complex. I highly suggest looking somewhere else that is not in such a congested area, where security will not be an issue.

I am considering moving into Lakeshore and the above review is making me extremely anxious. How bad are car break-ins? The part about the couple being held at gun point is shocking. I would appreciate any input from the residents. Also, are crimes like this more prevalent in a particular part of the community? like near the rec club or near the back of the community?

From my personal experience here (3 years)I have seen some break-ins but couldn't tell you how many? I have friends that live at a couple other complexes around here and in Fishers and they have mentioned car break-ins there too. I think it happens everywhere. I did hear more about the gun pointing robbery and apparently the suspects were caught the following day and are in jail. All that being said, I love it here-the grounds, the dog park, my neighbors and location are perfect for me.

I don't think crime is located anywhere specific. The summer months seem to bring out some desperate people. I have lived here for about 8 months and have to move due to a job transfer. My experience here was good and would re-rent if I am transfered back. I think you would enjoy living here too. good luck.

As a representative of Lakeshore management, I have been in direct contact with the Indianapolis Police/Fire Investigation Unit since the carport fire on July 6th (that was referenced in the above posting). As of this afternoon, I spoke with the lead investigator regarding the fire and there is still NO evidence linking the carport fire to arson. The cause of the fire will be ruled undetermined. The arson reference above has no credibility what so ever (unless this individual knows something the fire investigators don't know?). There is more evidence actually linking the fire to a possible Ford vehicle recall (which is under investigation). In reference to the car break-ins and robbery, crime does occur in and around Lakeshore like everywhere. We have taken additional measures recently to hopefully reduce our exposure to future crimes. In addition, the young men who robbed our residents (mentioned above) were thankfully arrested a couple days later.

Arson was the wrong word. I meant to say that it was deliberately lit on fire by vandals, not by Lakeshore itself.

Break-ins happen anywhere, for sure, and I would certainly feel unsafe if I was a victim of such crimes, but I lived at Lakeshore for more than a year, and I never felt unsafe. Certainly not more than any other place you would live on the northside (and there's some sketchy places just east of Allisonville). 82nd St. is a busy street, and the bars across the street lead to more loitering in the complex than would exist if the bars weren't there. Having said all that, there's double entry locks to get through to get to your apartment (an outer door you share with your neighbors, then your door). There are police officers who live on site, with their marked patrol cars in view of people coming in to the complex (that's a feature I require at any apartment complex). Lakeshore is far from perfect, but I'm looking to move back to Indianapolis soon (which was the only reason I left Lakeshore), and will probably re-sign a lease with them again.
P.S. One of the reviews of Lakeshore did mention all the people at the pools in the summer. If Lakeshore management could find a way to get rid of all the people who don't live at Lakeshore in the pools (it's gotta be 80-90 percent outsiders), some of the summertime loitering of young, drunk kids could be resolved. I knew all of my neighbors, and not a one of us ever dared to fight for use of the pool(s).

When I lived in Lakeshore from late 2005-early 2007, I had issues with a peeping tom. It was horrifying. There were also car break-ins when I was there. This was enough for me to get out and I will never be looking back. From what I'm reading, the crime issues have only become worse. I wouldn't recommend anyone to move there - especially single females.
