DO NOT RENT AT LAKESHORE!
I would not move into these apartments unless you want to get taken advantage of. My roommate and I lived on this property for 2 years, never a late payment. I made the move to buy my first house, and the instant I told ------------- (Property Manager) this, it was all downhill from there. He blatantly LIED about the fact that you may receive 1 carpet cleaning, if requested, for each year you live at Lakeshore. When we inquired about this PRIOR to moving out, he said they did not do that. When we vacated, with a pet, we were charged a ridiculous amount to replace the carpeting (we were EXTREMELY clean individuals) saying that it required replacement. And guess what' THEY DO NOT REPLACE THEIR CARPETING FOR NEW TENANTS EVEN AFTER A PET HAS LIVED IN THAT APARTMENT FOR 1 YEARS! That is disgusting and unethical and cheap. You may be moving into an apartment that once had 1 or more pets. Therefore, the carpet may look clean, but I can guarentee you it's infested with general bacteria from owning a pet, along with pet hair. We were blantantly lied to about this, along with other things. He refused to work with us on vacating early, for the benefit of the property to prepare the apartment for the next tenant. Instead, we got charged an extra month's rent (in addition to all costs that come to purchasing your first home) and are now stuck with quite a hefty fine for the carpet. I'm curious as to WHY they require you to pay a pet deposit, in addition to a monthly pet fee' It apparently didn't cover the replacement of the carpeting.
Just beware - ----- is money-hungry and unwilling to come to a compromise, or any sort of agreement, with his tenants. Regardless if you've been a quiet tenant who always paid their rent on time, make sure you have EVERYTHING in writing, and covered all bases before vacating.
Not to mention the safety issue. A girl was held at GUN POINT outside of our apartment building and we were NEVER INFORMED OF THIS. Instead, we were stunned when our keys didn't get us into the building, we were forced to go to the office to ask what was wrong, and were told that our locks were changed. No further information. We found out from the victim what had happened. Also an entire carport, including resident's vehicles were burned down to the ground earlier last year. Residents were never formally informed of how/why this happened.
Moral of my long rant is this -- there are plenty of other northside apartments that are newer, nicer, and more fair in their business ethics. This property is not that great and you'll have to deal with crime issues, as well as unethical and dishonest property management.
DO NOT LIVE HERE!!!!!!!

Sounds like sour grapes to me! You do the crime, you do the time or pay the fine in this case I'm sure. My experience was wonderful at Lakeshore. Take responsibility for your actions. I had numerous interactions with the office staff and all were very good. Grow up.

Wow. A quick response. "You do the crime, you do the time?" Wow, and you're telling me to grow up? It's ironic because I noticed this same person most likely has responded to all negative postings on this website b/c they like using the term "sour grapes." I HAVE grown up, and it's evident because I am no longer throwing my money away on ridiculous rental fees to live in an unsafe apartment complex, I am a homeowner now. Lakeshore Apartments is no longer my concern. I'm just letting the public know about my negative experiences, they can form their own opinions.
PUBLIC: If you want to live on the northwest side of Indianapolis and rent, there are plenty of other nicer, more-upgated, more affordable and safer apartment complexes to choose from. Honestly. Just keep looking, go ahead and bypass Lakeshore.

Reply from Lakeshore management to review: Residents are required to pay for any damages to the apartment after they move-out. This was the case in this situation too.
If pet damaged carpet is evident and untreatable, then the carpet and padding must be replaced. This was true in this case as well. At that time, a pro-rated amount is billed back to the resident who created the damage (depending on the age of the carpet if we are unable to effectively clean the carpet).
There is no reason to replace carpet in an apartment just because a pet lived there at one time. If theres no carpet damage from a pet then a professional cleaning is standard practice. This is no secret.
In regards to "we got charged an extra month's rent"...proper notice is required which is stated in each residents lease. Each residents move-out schedule is something the resident must be responsible for managing.
Carpet cleaning for current residents at lease renewal time is something Lakeshore management will discuss with the resident upon request.
Lakeshore will not clean a residents carpet a month prior to moving out however. In this review mentioned above several carpet cleans would not have been able to clean the urine soaked carpet throughout the apartment. Carpet replacement was the only option.
Criminal activity within Lakeshore's community is something we do inform our residents about and do not hide.

I decided not to live at Lakeshore based upon my friend's advice- she was concerned for my safety as well as the ridiculous (and outrageous) "fees." She lived there and felt scared after her friend was robbed at gunpoint. Sorry, Lakeshore- had to look elsewhere.
