I lived here in 2001 and wished I could have warned everyone

I like to check up on the places I've lived, especially when they were places such as Latitudes which is the worst place I've ever had the misfortune of renting. I posted reviews online shortly after my experience with them but I can see that they continue to "dazzle" residents with their service and professionalism.

I was a young professional living in this place when it had just been built in 2001. The office staff was clueless and the place was a construction site. My apartment was filled with dirt and filth coming from the construction and into the ventilation.

I got a promotion and offer to move to Cleveland (I know, not much of a promotion) after a year at this complex and I put in more than 60 days notice of my move which was more than required by contract. I left the place as clean as I had received it minus the filth that coated the walls from the construction.

A year and a half after leaving the nightmare of Latitudes, I get calls from a collection agency saying I didn't give them sufficient notice of my move. I contacted lawyers in Ohio to contest the issue and was told that I would have to hire an Indiana lawyer to fight this since it was coming from another state. I was being charged for extra rent AND new paint for the filth that their construction put on the walls! They said it was because of smoking and I don't even smoke!!!! My life is probably 10 years shorter because of the living conditions and breathing filth all day, and they wanted me to pay.

I have nothing to gain now by being deceptive nor am I the "dead-beat" as claimed the collection agency that Latitudes sent after me so I am completely honest when I say that I gave more than sufficient notice of my move and maintained a clean apartment. I also do not smoke and was not responsible for any damage to the apartment. I paid them off because it would have been more expensive to fight the issue in court than to simply cut a check and move on with my life. But I swore that at that moment, I would ensure that the maximum number of people know that Latitudes and Edward Rose are not to be trusted and offer the worst service to their tenants. I have been in many apartments as I have moved around professionally and this was the worst!

As an added note - keep copies of all of your rental paperwork for years after you think it's needed. Had I kept the copy of the notice I gave to the Latitudes office that I was going to move for 1.5 years, I could've beat these crooks in court.
