Words don't do justice to how much I hate living here. I moved here in October to live with my boyfriend. This place is so awful. We have a one bedroom and pay out the a$$ for it. The place looks really nice on the outside, but inside is an entirely different story.
-All three sets of blinds are broken.
-The kitchen cabinet doors have fallen off. We put them back on rather than call maintenance.
-I hear/feel EVERY move my upstairs neighbor makes.
-I hear EVERY movie/video game our neighbor next door watches/plays.
-Our dishwasher is broken.
-Noisy neighbor upstairs has a washer. We know this because we have water spots all over our ceiling. We told maintenance about it. Nothing was done.
-The maintenance people scare me.
-Our stairs are made of wood and are exposed to the elements. It seems the property doesn't care about this cuz it's my boyfriend who salts the stairs in the winter.
-Also, as others have mentioned, people do like to run up and down them at all hours of the night. It's like people have no concept of other people's lives and need for sleep!
-They have TWO dumpsters for the ENTIRE complex!! You literally have to drive your trash to the dumpsters.
-They have it so you cannot get cable. If you want TV services, you have to get their crappy Dish Network from circa 1998. (And I used to sell Dish Network. Here they charge you about $15 more a month for service that literally only work about half of the time)
-The front door frame is an odd shape, so naturally our door doesn't fit in it right. We had to put in weather stripping because of the terrible draft that was coming in.
-The bathroom faucet knobs are broken.
-The wall between our kitchen and dining room ticks. It freaks me out. I'm not sure what's wrong there.
-Gnats. Luckily we haven't had ants, spiders, or mice like other tenants have.
-The windows leak air pretty bad.
-I agree with the dog poop everywhere. I think my boyfriend and I are the only ones without a dog here. I try not to walk in the grass.
-And since everyone has a dog, you know every time someone comes or goes because the dogs bark.
-Another weird thing is it seems like a lot of people who live here don't work. Maybe they have jobs where you can work from home, but most of my neighbors don't leave for long enough periods of time to think they have jobs (can you say "drug dealers"').
-A tedious note: the hot water heater has to hold like 5 gallons of hot water. We don't really take long showers but the water starts getting cold towards the end of it. I'm talking like less than a ten minute shower. The water is also unbelievably hard, which I know they can't really do anything about.
-When they did apartment checks about a month back, the maintenance guy finally showed up. He changed our air filter, look to see if we had a fire extinguisher, then left. I feel so much safer now knowing that my tiny fire extinguisher works. Oh wait...
Mind you, my boyfriend was the first person in this apartment. We live in the newest building. It doesn't make sense that there are this many problems and we're the only people who have lived here. It probably sounds like we're training for UFC fights with all the broken crap in this apartment!
For as much as it costs to live here, you can go get a decent 2 bedroom apartment in an older complex two miles up the road!
**UPDATE**
We moved out (thank god) two months ago. We received a bill in the mail this week for $806.44. Yes, you read that right. They claim they had to replace the carpet because of pet damage. Yes there were some pee spots, but those easily would have come out if they would have cleaned the carpet first.
-They also had to reseal the floor for $90. We are the ones that had spots on our ceilings. I've been in the apartment below us and she didn't have any spots on her ceiling. Even if she did, the maintenance staff should have come to tell us and fix the problem.
-We were also charged $186 to paint. We had called the office and the lady told us what kind of paint to get. We didn't get the exact color because we weren't going to waste money getting expensive paint from Sherwin Williams, and got paint from Walmart instead. I had a maintenance guy in our apartment after we painted and asked him if it was okay. He said it was fine as long as they could paint over it with one coat (and they could).
-They also charged us for an extra day of rent. We were supposed to move out the 24th. When we called at the beginning of the month to find out how much our rent would be, they quoted us through the 25th. We vacated on the 25th, and they've charged us again for the 25th.
Seriously, DO NOT RENT FROM THESE PEOPLE!

Our wall in the kitchen/dining room did the same thing. What floor are you on? We were on 3rd and it did it ALL THE TIME. I think it's the wall shifting, because our cabinets started to come out from the wall and a crack at the top of the ceiliing formed. Sounds super safe, huh? Our dishwasher also broke, began leaking water every time you ran it, maintenance of course did NOTHING.

We're on the second floor. It sounds more like an electrical ticking though...
Yep, that's what our dishwashers does too. Apparently it's a pretty easy fix. The apartment I lived in before (which was ASWESOME. Stafford Pointe in Plainfield) had the same thing happen to the dishwasher. The maintenance people came out and fixed it immediately!

Dude! The EXACT same thing happened to us with the paint and extra day charges! We got the paint from Walmart and got them to verify that it was okay as long as one coat could go over it. I also called them and got approval to leave one day early and they charged me for that extra day too.
