Where do I start...
From: -Anonymous-Date posted: 1/30/2005
Years at this apartment: 2002 - 2004
Let me start by saying that I have not been completely unhappy with my stay at Lockefield Gardens. I am satisfied with the layout of my apartment and it is, for the most part, inexpensive to heat and cool. However, considering the cost and some of the issues I'm going to discuss, I feel it is time to end my stay at L.G.
1. Parking--In 2002, when I moved in, each resident had one guest pass. By 2003, that "privilege" had been revoked. We must now obtain a guest pass from the leasing office if we are expecting company. There are rules on how many days in a row this guest can stay, and also a limit on how many days per month you may have the pass. If a guest car has no pass, it will be towed. This creates a problem because, let's say I decide at 6pm that I'm going to have a guest. Well, the leasing office is closed and I cannot obtain a guest pass, therefore they could very well tow my guest's vehicle. This is not acceptable. This is a community made up primarily of students with hectic schedules who should not have to worry about beating it to the office by a certain time to get a guest pass. Life is not predictable. And as for having over multiple guests, well, I guess you're just out of luck.
2. Maintenance--I will say that my first few encounters with the maintenance staff were good. However, as of late, I certainly will not be bragging on them. I am on day 9 with no washer. To make a long story short, my washer flooded the hallway, they removed it and replaced it with another broken washer that wouldn't spin, removed that washer, and the space for my washer is still empty 4 days later, for a total of 9 days. I'm giving them until tomorrow when I get home from work before I flip out.
3. Construction--Not too bad.
4. Noise--Oh yes! Let's talk about that noise! God love my neighbor and his girlfriend with their midnight escapades! These walls are paper-thin. The noise is quite ridiculous. While I feel that one should be able to have his/her "relations" whenever the notion strikes, I don't believe I should have to hear every intimate detail. They should arrange apartments so that the bedrooms on the second and third floors are not right above the bedroom of the person below them. And for added fun, if any of you have ever watched the movie Porky's, my neighbor's girlfriend could have tried out for Kim Catrell's part a.k.a. "Lassie".
4. Grounds--Looks okay to me. Seem well-kept.
5. Safety--I don't particularly feel unsafe. Although there was that one time when the obese man was masturbating in front of my neighbor's window. But you're bound to have some weirdos when you live downtown. The alarms on the apartments are kind of a joke. In the summer when it storms a lot, everytime the power goes out, your alarm resets. Therefore, your code no longer works and you have to call maintenance. I have unplugged my alarm.
5. Staff--They all have personalities of a rock. Job satisfaction is such a beautiful thing!
6. Misc.--A neighbor vomited in the common hall area and all over the door. I called for clean-up but nothing was ever done (and it was mid-summer, it smelled quite lovely). And then there was that squirrel in my ceiling. Yes, I kid you not. A squirrel. This too I complained about, but nothing was ever done. Luckily Mr. Squirrel went back to his home, wherever that might be. I think all of the neighbor's noisy "fun" scared it down to my level. Poor thing was probably terrified.
While I must admit that this apartment is a very convenient location to places such as IUPUI and IU, Riley, and Wishard hopitals, I would not reccommend Lockefield Gardens to a friend. I would suggest that they shell out a few extra dollars and live somewhere else.
