I have lived at Lockefield Gardens for two full years with the end of my third year coming in August. This will be my final lease with any Sexton Properties.
When I first moved in the walls were not well painted and the carpet was in extremely bad shape. I complained to the office staff and it was taken care of within the first week (new paint & carpet). I was very impressed by this. I also was very nice to maint. men and always seemed to have issues taken care of quickly. The only problem I had was noise from the common hallways and courtyards mainly on the weekends. Because it is 90% college students living there, I kind of assumed that would happen and dealt with the noise on my own. (turning up the tv)
Now to the current state of lockefield.... Something has changed within the last year to year and a half that has caused the property to go south fast:
To begin, now on two occasions, the second one this month, the office has had a note on my door saying I needed to pay my rent or I would be evicted. Fair enough, but the problem is I already payed my rent three days before. I call and the answer I got was, "ok, let me look around for it" and after five minutes on hold: "ok we have it, sorry about that".
Next, I had an extremely hard time getting a copy of the ledger stating that I payed on time every month to give to my new apartment complex. They told me I needed to call the manager, which I did but never got my calls returned. Lucky for me, I went in to the office to get a parking pass and they had hired a new person that I took advantage of by asking her for a copy, which she agreed.
The courtyards and common areas have become overgrown with leaves and weeds and finally has turned into a muddy pool.
I have had increasing problems with leaks in my apartment which have not been fixed, they just plaster over the whole in the ceiling to bandaid the water from hitting the carpet. My ceiling now just has numerous brown water marks.
One of the most frustrating issues happend this Winter when the heat went out for six days. Granted, the maint. worked very hard trying to fix the problem, they just were not qualified. I was very patient, but after the six days I had enough and called management to vent concern. I wrote down the date and times I called, and I have called 23 times over two months (still have not recieved a return call)
Now to the final straw... I lived here for two years and felt pretty safe, but this last year has been a different story. Almost nightly there is at least (note at least) one car with a broken window in the complex. Some morning I have gone to my car and seen 2-3 windows broken out in one night. There has also been an increase in homeless people sleeping in the common hallways and checking doors to see if they can find one unlocked. I just do not feel safe here anymore!!!
In conclusion, the complex was a decent place to live two years ago but now has turned into a crime ridden frat house. Unless you are a college student splitting the rent with 2 or 3 more people and looking for a place to party, it just is not worth it. Also beware that the Gardens of Canal Court across the street have better looking buildings but have the same management and crime issues. If you are looking for a place to really call home, and not a dorm.... do some research and you can probobly find a better property that will serve your needs better. AD2Hw9Wn8Umb3NN1w1jt
