Unsafe and full of Insects

We lived in Lockefield for 2 years and were completely dissatisfied with the time we spent there. It consistently took the maintenance at least a month to come fix something (and only if you bother the office constantly). In one case, it took them at least a year to respond to one of our maintenance requests. The area is unsafe two of our bikes, chained to the bike rack, had the chains hacked off and stolen within the first two weeks of living there. When we complained to the office they dismissed it and did nothing about it, even though many people were getting their bikes stolen. The biggest problem we had was the constant amount of insects in the apartment. Even with weekly sprayings, there were still a lot of bugs. After our first year, Lockefield changed pest control companies, and the new company informed us that we had bedbugs, even though we hadn t traveled anywhere or had anyone stay in our apartment. They sprayed thoroughly once, and sprayed in spots twice and said they were finished. Lockefield then presented us with the bill of almost $2,000 and asked us to pay each month or else we would be evicted! Nowhere in the lease does it say that the resident would be responsible for bedbugs, especially if we didn t bring them there in the first place. And, Lockefield should have at least had the courtesy to inform us that they would stick US with the bill before proceeding! Not to mention that we still found bedbugs after the company had finished spraying. But, Lockefield refused to send the company to spray again until we started paying the bill! Now, despite the fact that we ve been reluctantly making payments to them, they ve taken us to collections anyway. We decided we ve had enough and have hired a lawyer who also agrees that their actions are unethical and illegal. We ve also turned them into the Better Business Bureau. I guess Lockefield assumed incorrectly that because we were international students that they could completely try to take advantage of us. I would HIGHLY recommend that you NOT live there. Yes it s close to campus but that s the ONLY advantage. Everything sucks the maintenance sucks, the management sucks (especially --------------), the apartments suck (they aren t well-maintained), and the safety sucks.

I totally agree with you, Lockefield Gardens is the worst place to live in..the staff's attitudes stinks and the manager lied to me regarding the bed bug problem. And yes, the bedbugs did not go off after the spraying..commando insects everywhere. When you report a bedbug problem, they immediately present you with a bill of $950 but when your dishwasher/ roof leaks...they take forever to fix it...my dishwasher is still leaking.
Hence when a tenant moves out because of persistent bedbug problems, the new tenant will be presented the bedbug bill...can you imagine the poor student who just arrived here for college to go through these. I am thinking of who to approach to take actions. They cannot rip us off like that. They DO NOT act based on the resident's interest at all.
By the way, do check out the reviews of the pest control company..equally stinks, equally unethical and illegal. Perfect partners.
