I would look somewhere else...

Parking is hell. If you count the number of apartments and the number of parking spots, you know you will have a good walk if you don't get a good spot on time. If there is 1.5 people per apartment, you are still short spots unless you want a good walk to your car. Parking is the biggest problem of all. Even ----'s inability to empathize with people is less of a problem than parking after dark.
Noise is a huge problem. It is fine most of the time, but at night... You will hear people talking really loud outside anywhere between 2am-4am, people with loud cars and trucks will rev their engines at all hours of the night and the trucks normally leave around 6am... Other rents are great about their music volume and other noise. It is loud enough you can hear the bass, but not so loud that it gets to you. They just built this apartments so sound echoes from one building to the other and amplifies sound. Then you have fly overs now and then which are cool to watch, but not listen to if you just pulled a night shift. Noise is bad, I have lived in places that are worse. Mowing is another issues that I will go over in construction...
Grounds are horrid during the summer, the geese poop EVERYWHERE. They dont even try to clean it up or do anything about getting the geese to leave. The geese walk around in herds and will attack you. Other than that the grounds around the club house are great, but else were are between iffy and horrid. The pond by the tennis court of death will kill anything that swims in it. The tennis court of death as I just called it is just that. Imagine a tennis court in hell... Truthfully imagine a tennis court in Florida with trees all around it, now imagine a hurricane coming through and that is EXACTLY what their tennis court looks like... They just don't even try.
Safety, the complex is tucked away, so safety normally isnt a huge problem. There are peepers around, there are people that will break into your car now and then, there are many things that are possible, but just look at the area, worse look at 71st street. That is what will come up here to destroy the area. It is too close to the slums to be even half way safe.
Construction... this place is in really poor shape. The paint jobs of the insides of the apartments are extremely poor, who the heck paints hair into the walls and doors' The hedges of the doors around the bathrooms are normally extremely rusted. Well, just look around when you look at the apartments, you will see what an apartment should not look like really.
Maintenance, this is where I am putting the mowing. If you have a weekday off that they are mowing, expect to be awake at 8am if not earlier. Mowing is loud as can be, but the mowers (I think some are illegal immigrants as well as other staff that is out "making improvements" right now.) are really nice. They will mow away from you if you are getting out of the apartment so it wont blow grass or anything at you.
Maintenance continued... Seriously, same problem has been fixed 7 times now... How... I just cant say anything about that without being insulting, so I wont. These apartments are riddled with problems. So if you are expecting a place where a repair doesn't happen at least once a month, this is not the place for you. It will be your water heater, AC, heat, dishwasher, it is always something. This place is cheap on repairs too. My old water heater kept the water hot for twice the time at twice the heat... The maintenance staff is extremely nice, but they don't always know what they are doing. Some of the problems I ran into here a 8 year old would have noticed and problem solved right away. I can make this section about 20 pages long, but I dont have the time... So on to the next thing.
Staff, I have yet to really meet---, but he seems like a very nice guy from passing by him now and then. ---- on the other hand... she needs to learn how to communicate with customers. She talks down to everyone, she always has an attitude, she just isn't a pleasant person. When JC Hart came in because of so many repairs needing to happen all at once, I thought she was fired. Holy cow I was happy, then I saw her car at the club house... She really does need to be fired... She needs to learn how to talk to people before holding down a job like that. Like I said above maintenance staff is extremely nice. The JC Hart guys know what they are doing, but normal staff has no idea at all half of the time.
Overall... the apartment wasn't even ready when I moved in. Wires were exposed, outlets are poorly wired (Oak Lakes may be shut down in the future if the government gets wind of the wiring, because it isn't up to state code, at all.) There is just a whole list of things. I say look somewhere else if you want someplace nice to live. If you don't mind noise, shotty maintenance, horrid parking, and never go outside to walk through the goose poop, or talk to ----, then this would be a good place for you.
Oh yeah, the dogs are HUGE that people have here. I didn't know dogs could grow as big as some of these things are. They are like horses, okay that is going overboard, but you know what I mean. Parking alone I would never live here again though. They just structured this place poorly when it was built, they can't even add parking to make it better...

I honestly have no idea why this person would've leased in the first place. If they were so concerned with the proximity to 71st, they shouldn't have leased. Also, if I showed up on move in day, and my apartment wasn't ready, I wouldn't move in. Plain and simple. The apartment must've had some curb appeal to make them move in there. Also, it's called Oak LAKE...of course there are going to be geese. That's just something that comes along with a lake view. This person is as prejudiced against the geese as they are the mowing crew!!!
In my opinion, the maintenance staff has done a wonderful job and have taken care of any service issues I have had in my apartment. Similarly, I have enjoyed working with a friendly and efficient office staff each time I've paid rent or had a maintenance issue to discuss. I have had a wonderful experience living here and have never once had noise issues. I love the location of the apartments because they are close to night life, shopping, and 465 for travel. I would recommend this place to anyone. I'm going to renew my lease, and job permitting, will stay here until I am ready to buy a house.

Yeah, what are people supposed to do then? Sit and wait a whole day on the curb with a moving truck while you have no where to live because all of your stuff is packed up? You need a serious reality check. Also, there is no doubt in my mind that you very well could be the manager at Oak Lake. You don't do a very well job at disguising yourself, just to let you know.
You need to make sure apartments are clean before people move into them. The toilet seat was dirty with human waste when I moved into my apartment. There is no excuse for that.
In previous places I've lived at, the goose crap was hosed down. We had no rain this summer, so it pretty much just baked itself onto the blacktop. And I don't have a lakeview apt...its not as much seeing the geese, its not being able to walk without stepping in the crap.
And, this person didn't say anything prejudiced against the mowing crew. They are good workers who stay out of the way. Its just that the mowing begins at too early of an hour, and that is the fault of the complex.
Talking to the staff hasn't ever been a joyous experience because you never know if they are really paying attention, or if what you are asking to get fixed will indeed be fixed, and fixed correctly.
The number of problems I have in my apartment would involve un-inhabiting the place for a week to fix everything. Either that, or I can kiss any free relaxation time away, to have the maintenance staff be in there everyday.
I would not recommend this place to anyone who doesn't like dirty places.

I love how the manager took out the names. They were definitely there when I read this review before, funny...
Losing Is So Agonizing
^ Hint for people who have IQ's over 120.
Anyways, it is just sad that they are that petty. The girl is young though. She really shouldn't even be in that position. To manage an apartment complex you should at least be in your mid to late 20s, not early 20s. A manager of any sort needs more life experience than that. It really isn't fair to her to be in that position if she wants to be there or not.
She does lack some of the social abilities that would make more people like her, but for someone who is more stiff and aggressive, she is fine. I am waiting until I move out to form my opinion to throw up here.
As of right now, I am close to the same opinion, but I am waiting until I move out to throw up a review. There is a list of things they could do to impress me though.
1. Get people to quit doing burnouts in the parking lot, especially at midnight.
2. Get people to turn down their music when driving in the parking lot past 10pm at least. (When your car music is shaking my bedroom window, that is bad.)
3. Finish up what they have started with this "making the place look better." The fences around half of the trash bins need totally replaced, and with quality lumber, not cheap lumber.
4. Get these leaves cleaned up... Yes it is fall, but the grass is going to die if they dont do it soon.
5. Fix the parking problem. This may be impossible, there are too few of spots per apartment. No one should have to pay for a carport when there are not enough spots to begin with, even if it is only $15 a month extra. That is still almost $200 for a year. That is a lot of beer and poker money, haha.

Hello everyone. I know these comments are from 2 years ago, but we are asking any former or current residents to help us continue to improve Oak Lake. We have made some great strides for improvement, but would love additional feedback. Please contact me at marketing@homeisjchart.com. Thanks, and sorry for your frustrations. Mark @ J.C. Hart
