I've been living here for a few months now and while my actual apartment and the location are nice, the combination of my neighbors and the management have made me decide that I will definitely NOT be renewing my lease. The manager could not possibly be more condescending and patronizing every time I have to deal with her--I could really do without the attitude.

Agreed. This place sucks. I've been counting the weeks left on my lease for months.

Agreed... I would like to see the manager get fired seriously. I think better management here would improve a lot. New management for the whole JC Hart company would improve even more stuff around here and other properties they own. I want to see what a couple more of their properties look like though, so far thay are all the same quality roughly. They dont even plow the parking lot at all, then it gets icy and slick... then also at the main 3 way of the complex it should be at least a stop for the people going north and west, because the only people you can see coming are people going west... Anyways, driving is a hazard for the most part and there are not even parking spots... Walls and windows are WAY too thin. http://www.startribune.com/lifestyle/homegarden/11311611.html Here is a genral site that shows how long appliances should last. Water heater 10-11 years, the one that was in this apartment when I moved in was 14 years old. This place is cheap on almost everything it does. The manager is too young to be managing a complex too, and she has a bad personality... (Holy cow she need to learn how to act like an adult and be nice instead of a 3 year old.) If you go to other complexes owned by JC Hart and meet the managers you will learn that many of them are airheads, have bad attitudes, and really dont have the personality type to manage an apartment complex. JC Hart only cares about making money and filling up the apartments, not how happy their customers are... After walking around the complex for exercise it is funny to see the fence around one of the south side of the property's trash containers is always broken, haha. The manager needs to get on top of stuff and do it herself if her employees dont have the time to. That is what a GOOD manager would do. A GREAT manager would take the comments posted on here and fix every problem they see ASAP. This whole place needs a massive overhaul inside and out. I kind of like the new lights, but they need all of the outside lights to have the same theme, because it makes the place look worse how it is. They need to replace everything that is rusting inside the apartments. I am pretty sure most houses today have 3 panes of glass instead of 2 like this place. Mostly because it helps with strength in bad weather, which we get often in Indiana, and it helps with heating and cooling bills a little bit. Of course there is a LOT that needs to happen to help on the heating and cooling bill for this place. Sliding glass doors let in a LOT of cold air in the winter, so does the front door, and all of the windows. A couple people have trash and other things on their back porches that face the parking lot and it makes the complex look trashy... If the manager would just come out of the office and walk around and look for things that make the place look bad she would find them before people would complain about them. ------------ It is really too bad that they lost their maintenance guy though. He was really nice and very hard working. Best wishes to his family... I think all of us who live here that have met him feel the same way.

I completely agree with everything. The safety in this complex has gone downhill and fast. I heard that she pulled down some of the signs that were posted about the peeping tom. I was glad that he did that, because I know I would have never heard about it unless he spoke up. Just yesterday I was talking with a fellow resident that had their car broken into it Saturday. Did you know that there was a door and window kicked in and the residents were robbed at gun point? That was somewhere in the back. I have lived here for two years and I too am counting the weeks until my lease is up. They say??? ???Well we have a courtesy officer?????? yea and he doesn???t do crap!! There are so many things wrong with this apartment complex it has become childish. As for the comment of them just wanting to fill apartments and making money??? I couldn???t agree more. I???ve spoke with the manager time and time again about security changes and the only thing she replies with is??? we are at 97% capacity. Who gives a ---- what percentage we are at, I can???t sleep at night because I???m worried someone is going to be standing outside of my window or something. I would never recommend this place to anyone... even my worst enemy. It???s overpriced for the few square feet we get, the should be retired appliances, horrible weather sealing, and crappy maintenance work. They don???t replace anything at all, they simply come in and half ass fix it so it can break again. I???ve lived in two J.C. Hart complexes and they have both been apart of my worse decisions ever list. I think apartment complexes should let residents vote on where money is spent, kind of like having a POA card in a neighborhood. What really sucks is that Oak Lake doesn???t even care enough to check this site for what people are saying about them. I would like to see a response from one of the managers on this site explaining the security issues and what they plan to do about it if anything. If they are at 97% and if they only had 100 (figuratively speaking) units to rent at an average price (which I know is way off) of 700/month comes to $67,900 per month!!! Your telling me that they can???t afford a night watch security officer, home alarm systems, enclosed parking areas, more lights around the car ports, better appliances, new flooring, etc??? Don???t get me wrong, I enjoyed the first few months at Oak Lake??? at least until the first manager left and then Ed left. I???ve said my piece and I can???t wait to move out of this overpriced and under managed apartment complex.

I don't know about this place anymore. I have lived here for almost a year. But I can't help always looking outside my window thinking i'm going to see someone shady walking around or something shady going on. I'm always looking outside of my front and side windows cause i've seen people lurking around in the early morning 2-5am. Its strange but its made me paranoid.
