A decent place, but could be much better.

I think that the units are in pretty good shape, as they are not very old. There is not 57 layers of semi gloss paint caked onto every paintable surface. There's actually flat on the walls and you can get a cute colored accent wall too.
We live in the back of the complex and traffic noise from the interstate or Southport road is very hard to hear, it's actually pretty quiet most of the time.
The location is very good as there are plenty of places to eat and shop very nearby and US31/the mall is about 6-10 minutes away depending on traffic. Also I65 is about a half mile from the entrance to the complex.
There are some tenants though that do not turn their music down to a level that is not audible with your closed windows. Also, one of the maintenance guys drove around in a tan car with loud bass vibrating through the complex but I don't think he works here anymore.
The windows aren't bad, but they could have been a little thicker to help heating/cooling costs as well as help reduce noise.
Oftentimes throughout the day you can see and hear the utility vehicle that maintenance uses to commute around the neighborhood, but I am not complaining about it at all......what do you expect them to do, walk' I have however heard it very late at night or early in the morning on a couple of occasions but again, it could have been an emergency.
There are a few people with loud cars, I myself included have a pretty noisy truck but I let it idle through the neighborhood, especially at night as I try to be respectful and not disturb those that may be sleeping. However there are a few with noisy vehicles that do not care that it's 2 am and someone might be trying to sleep.
There is only one location to take your trash, which is to the compactor at the front of the neighborhood. Oftentimes you can see a large amount of bags piled up next to it. It is probably full, but there are times when people put crap into it that isn't supposed to go in it that could jam it up.
My BIGGEST complaint about this place is the horrible idea to place a couple of the buildings within 6 to 8 feet of the roads. One building directly across from the leasing office has a road directly behind it and is awful to turn out of, as people come flying down the hill into the neighborhood. I'm surprised there hasn't been some kind of an accident yet. Also, the very next turn that goes to the back of the neighborhood is right next to another building and neither person coming around the turn from either direction can see if someone is coming around the turn, and people that are heading out of the neighborhood often cut the corner creating a hazard. I have nearly been hit probably a half dozen times on this turn from people cutting the corner.
Another big issue is PARKING! First, the idiots who designed the place did not put a sidewalk that extends along the entire front of buildings where there are parking spaces. It makes no sense, and is especially displeasing when it snows and have to walk though a ton of pushed snow to get to the 20 feet of neatly shoveled sidewalk. Oh, and they'll be sure to bring the snowblower through at 3 or 4 am right by your window waking you up. I'm not sure why that can't wait until 6am or so.
And.....DOG S**T! Most tenants pick it up but some don't. I really wish dogs were not allowed. There's a chick across the way from us that has two dogs that bark quite often, and she leaves her patio door open when she is gone and they get real annoying real fast. I would just love to toss a big giant hershey bar up to the patio and let them both lick it up. It's ridiculous to allow your animals to bark constantly. There's a few stray cats that fight each other in the middle of the night, and they get into people's trash occasionally as well. I'd like to drown them both in the stinking pond.
The garage is pretty decent, but it would be nice if they had run maybe one outlet down to the wall. Instead you have to plug in anything you need power for into the outlet on the ceiling where the overhead door opener plugs in to. I made it easy on myself and got a splitter that is plugged into the outlet and hangs down low enough that I can reach up with my feet on the floor instead of having to climb a ladder to the outlet.
As for the pool - I could care less whether it's actually heated or not. It's a pool, and weren't pools designed so you could cool off in hot weather' If it's chilly it's because it's a pool and it's SUPPOSED to be ya wankers!
Also, the "courtesy cop" is pretty much noexistant. I have lived here for about 8 months, and spend most of my evenings/nights sitting by my window with a clear view outside. I have yet to see the "courtesy cop" take a drive through at anytime after 5 pm. The only time I have seen him is during the daytime when he's driving through tagging people's cars for expired plates, or a flat tire, or some other minor infraction. He's courteous enough to leave a nice orange violation sticker on your window, but not enough to really care about the neighborhood like they make you think. I'm just glad I don't have to worry about those lovely disrespectful ---------, thugs, and of course "those" people that like to walk with a limp.
The price could be better, in my opinion. We will not be renewing our lease and most likely won't be getting another apartment. I can find comparable conditions and much, much, much more space for the money by renting a house.
If I was looking for an apartment and knew all the stuff I didn't like, it probably wouldn't discourage me too much as I think with all the stuff I don't like it still doesn't quite outweigh what I do like. With that being said, having lived here I probably won't live here again.
