Can you ever imagine paying over $1000.00 per month to live next door to a homeless shelter. Well you can...all you have to do is move to RILEY TOWERS. The Salvation Army is right next door to Tower 1. So you can expect to be asked for money whenever you enter or exit your apartment. Even worse, they can access the parking garage...so I hope you don't have a nice car or anything expensive in it, because YOUR CAR WILL GET BROKEN INTO! Cars were broken into when I lived there and no one was given even a simple apology for the lack of security. Peoples apartments were constantly broken into, people were mugged in the elevators, (imagine being trapped in an elevator on its way up to the 29th floor with a man with a gun). This happened to someone in my tower. At least they were nice enough to let her out of her lease. They even posted signs on the front door of the buildings saying to watch out for this man. Maybe they should have hired extra security, they should be able to afford it considering I was paying over $1300 per month for rent, utilities, and 2 parking spaces ($75 for the first and $100 for the second). This is the most unsafe living situation I have ever lived in and I decided to pay a HUGE fee to get out of this lease because I honestly was afraid to go home. DO NOT MOVE HERE!!! Its not worth the money or your safety!

I think it is very safe. It is in the downtown area and the buildings are keyed entry and the parking is gated. I have never heard about any thing like that going on here?

Yeah, this is true. There is a homeless shelter next door. There are keyed entries but half the time the door is just left open, making the keyed entry useless. The parking is gated as well, but again, when you have bad maintenance and management, things like keyed entries and parking gates dont work, leaving the residents vulnerable to the homeless and convicts.

I can't speak to the veracity of the robbery stories, but let me say this: I've lived in Tower 2 for over four months now and I haven't heard a word about such things happening. Moreover, I walk to work past the Salvation Army every day (and often again in the evening with groceries) and have yet to be asked for money...it seems very low-key, actually. I'll admit, when I first moved in the presence of the Salvation Army was an eyebrow-raiser, but c'mon: if you never want to see anyone who might be less fortunate than you are, move back to the 'burbs. I love it here.

This is completely untrue. I never ever in the year I lived there had anything like this happen to me. The keyed entries were never ever left open. I used to walk past the Salvation army 3-4 tmes a week (AND past the Wheeler Mission), and I never felt unsafe. I got asked for money maybe a handful of times, but only when there was a huge event going on, like a concert at the Murat (a big one, not just any of them). The most these people ever did was say good morning or how are you.
If you can't handle diversity, you shouldn't be living downtown.
