Certainly not awful

I lived in a one bedroom apartment at River Crossing for 14 months. The apartment itself was beautiful with lots of terrific details that one doesn't always find in an apartment. Built in bookshelves, crown molding, secure entries, huge closets, an awesome garden tube, and nice cabinetry were all the things that sold me on the space. The pool is beautiful and the path around the lake is great. We often walked to and from Champps for brunch on Sundays. The neighborhood felt very safe and was relatively quiet. A cleaning came once per week to clean the common space in the building and did an impecable job.
The not-so-great parts of River Crossing aren't really deal breakers, in my opinion. Parking can be a problem but it wouldn't be if residents paid for the garages. The trash compactor wasn't a problem when I moved in but by the end of my lease it was usually overflowing by mid-week. Gross. I did have some issues with repairs. The staff was always pleasant and the repair men were always polite and clean but not very competent. I had water spots on my ceiling the entire time we lived there which I'm sure was do to a backed up line in the HVAC system. The guys thought the upstairs bathroom was leaking (even though the apartment above us was vacant), then they thought the upstairs porch must be leaking (which was ridiculous considering the wet spots were at least 10 feet from the external wall), and they ultimately decided it was due to my dryer vent but either way, it was never corrected.
My biggest problem with River Crossing was simply based on a design flaw. There are so many units packed in on top of each other that often I felt like we lived in a hotel. If I ever lived in that apartment complex again, I would certainly not live on the ground floor. Our bedroom window was right next to the back door of the building and we heard everyone coming and going at all hours.
Overall, this is not an awful place to live. We would probably have moved to another unit within the neighborhood had we not bought a house.
