I have to whole heartedly agree with the lack of communications on safety issues at the Scandia complex of 440 apt units. I have long suspected that the Scandia mgmt does not want the residents to know all the crap that is happening there. One morning I saw the coronor carrying a body out of one of the apts. Of course we never found out what happened, we never do. I suspected it was drug related or a murder. The opportunity to communicate with other apt renters is what makes this "Apartment Ratings" website such a good idea.
There have also been a number of times when there was distruction to the Scandia administrative building. I assumed the distruction was done by disgruntled residents, looking for a way to express their displeasure to the management. Three or so years ago the administrative building was burned down during the night and had to be completely rebuilt. I suspect it was arson, but again there is no communication by the Scandia mgmt so we assume the worst.
I have to say that Scandia did replace all the rotted out forty year old balconies two years ago. They also put in a drainage system around the buildings that hopefully will stop all the mold that was so common in many of the below ground first floor apts after a good rain. We're paying for those improvements now. My "PREFERRED RESIDENT" rental rate increased $45 per month this year. I was glad that I was a "preferrred resident", I can only imagine how much the rates increased for a "non-preferred" resident!
Scandia has definitely gone down hill in many ways while we've been here.
