Ok.. I've heard a lot of people on here pissin & moanin about how bad Scandia is and how little they care for their residents.. so, as someone who's lived here for almost 8 years, I'm gonna give you the real story.

Lets be honest.. it's not the nicest or newest complex in Indy, but for the price you pay, these apartments are a great deal. First of all, location. They're located just south of Fishers on the far northeast side of Indianapolis, which one of the nicest areas of town. The crime rate is lower here than anywhere else in the county, and most people with a good income are flocking to this area.

Next, square footage. I don't know about you.. but I'm not very fond of those small, cramped little apartments where you can barely fit a couch and TV in the living room and your bedroom looks like a walk-in closet. I like my space.. and Scandia is definitely tops in that department. You can get an 1800 sq ft 3-bedroom penthouse on the north side of town with a wooded view overlooking White River for only about $1000 a month. Hell, thats bigger than a few of my friend's houses. You'll pay that much for an 800 sq ft 1-bedroom place in most of the other newer nearby communities like Amli.

Ok, on to the complaints about the staff and how they treat older, long term residents. As I said, I've lived in the complex for almost 8 years now, and I've NEVER had a single problem with the staff or maintenance. Matter of fact, most of my requests were handled in 1-2 days. Sure, sometimes it may take a couple days to get something fixed.. but hey, there's almost 450 units in the complex.. that's a lot of apartments to keep in full working order. Be a little patient folks. As for the office staff.. Over my 7-8 years here, I've seen about 6-7 property managers come and go.. and probably 30 leasing reps cycle through. Some were more helpful than others, but overall, they were all fair and flexible. They host many activities and community appreciation days throughout the year, and are always friendly.

For those of you who have been here many years and complain about your carpets needing replaced and other various things that the staff supposedly won't accommodate you with. I've personally went and picked up paint from the maintenance office on several occasions, and as long as you supply your own container, they are happy to give you as much as you d like. As for replacing the carpets, the subcontractors can't replace the carpets while your furniture is in the apartment, so you'd have to move everything out to get it replaced. (hence.. why they usually replace it when people move out.. duh!) And reference the new cabinets and such, they only replaced those cabinets in a handful of units last year while they were experimenting with re-doing the whole community. Due to the cost of upgrading and the lack of interest in residents wanting to pay the additional $100-$200 rent for the upgraded apartments.. they discontinued the refurbishing after only those first dozen or so.

As for the quality of the residents, lets face it.. it's a younger crowd. I'd say the average age is about 22-26.. many college aged kids. It's a very diversified community with no particular racial or ethnic majority. If you're offended by the occasional loud stereo or drunken party on a balcony.. get in your BMW and go find yourself a $1500-a-month Condo in a more affluent community up in Carmel. These apartments are priced for younger, working class adults and college kids.

Overall, It's a very nice community that spends a lot of time and money updating and upgrading its apartments to keep up with the newer and nicer nearby competition. Those of you on here who have so much negative to say about it.. good riddens, and good luck finding anything else half as nice for the price.

That "review" was just way too favorable and one sided, obviously indication it was written by someone from or related to the Scandia administration. The giveaway was your favorable description of the maintenance and the office administration. Virtually everyone who has lived here knows of the adversarial relationship between the office and the tenants, both young and old. It has only been a few years since some "satisfied" tenant was so pleased that they burned down the administration building. We will not mention the daily destruction, vandalism, theft, coronor visits, wall-to-wall dog crap all over the grounds, the closed, decayed bridges, etc. in this fine community
