Shore Acres of Broad Ripple formerly Shore Acres Apartments
< Prev Review | >
Shore Acres is a decent place to live. It's a good proximity to downtown and Broad Ripple, and it's nice to have direct access to the Monon. The staff are OK, nothing special. The walls are not that well insulated, so a guitar-playing neighbor or a wild party will keep you up. Also children in the often crowded pool screaming will annoy you. The pool isn't that great unless you are a 20-30something who loves to lay out and flirt. I never had any safety issues minus one time a weirdo was looking in my car at 3 AM. The apartment itself is fairly expensive for the square footage. It gets small QUICK. The bike storage is a mess and almost too chaotic to use, and the extra storage is in a basement like area that is kind of damp. The fixtures in our apartment were OK, and started to break down. The carpet is cheap, the bathroom is tiny, and there were a lot of little things I noticed that were wrong throughout the three years I was there. The business center is barely functional - last time I went in there, the computers were off and unplugged. They were never configured correctly. The workout room is small but usable, and the laundry room has never been too crowded to use. Consider to yourself before moving up 2-3 flights of stairs how much it will suck to carry laundry down the steps.
One thing that REALLY bugged me was how they would come into my apartment so often for biannual checkups. I appreciate the need to upkeep, but it would always be with little to no warning, ie a paper stuck on your door saying they're coming to work on your unit at 8 AM the next morning, lock your pets up. Also, the stairs get very icy in the winter. Sometimes they don't clear them all, especially if you are on the third floor. And when the ice begins to melt and refreeze, you'll get inches thick ice (I fell a few times).
I'm not super critical of apartments and this place was pretty cozy, but we've now moved and this is what I remember.
Overall, it was a good value for the location, but if it hadn't been in Broad Ripple, I wouldn't have stayed.
