Uncaring Management, Unannounced Apt Entry

I have lived in the St. Agnes building for 3 years. I like the location, and the outside of the building is neat. The price is very appealing for the area. But the management and onsite manager are obsequious at best, apathetic at worst, when it comes to issues like unruly and noisy tenants. But, worst of all, the manager makes unscheduled, unannounced "maintenance visits". I stopped him from bringing in a maintenance man to replace doors (their idea, not mine), and he announced would come back when I wasn't there, in complete violation of state laws regarding 24 hour notice for such things.

The building apparently attracts some real low-lifes, and the management has no problem renting to them. My neighbor actually crawled out on the ledge after an all-night party session, and was walking back in forth in front of my windows. Again, management refused to do anything as, according to them, I couldn't "positively identify who it was on the ledge".

The other tenants are, at best, a mixed 'downtown' crowd. My neighbors are some unspecified quantity of young emo types who like to stay up all night listening to "thumpa thumpa" headbanging music. When I try to get the manager to come listen to it at 3 am, he is so drunk he can barely hold himself up, much less deal with the situation. And of course, they are smart enough to turn the music down when they hear "the man".

This is definitely not downtown living at it's best. It's more like your freshman dorm.

I would seriously consider the trade-off between a hundred bucks cheaper rent, vs. some of the nicer properties (and managers) in the downtown area.

The hot water boiler routinely goes out a few times a year, usually on Sunday night, so you can't get a morning shower. Don't bother calling about that, either.
