Don't let them fool you!

I was really impressed with the management comments on all of the reviews when I was considering a lease with TWOEC. I thought that maybe this was an apartment community with a leasing office staff that would be friendly, helpful and fair. One year later, now that my lease is almost up, I cannot even begin to describe how anxious I am to leave this complex. I would not, in any way, to any person I may or may not know, recommend this apartment complex for numerous reasons.

#1: Safety:
Last week, my bottom floor neighbor's apartment was broken into. Two nights ago, I drove home from work (around 7pm) to find 7 police cars in the complex responding to a report I'm yet to here about from management. My neighbors across the hall vacated in an issue that involved police officers as well. I am a female in my mid-twenties and do not feel safe living here on my own. I constantly see police cars in the complex who have come due to a report. And although I'll notice the occasional neighborhood watch flier in my mailbox, I can hardly say that's sufficient.

BOTTOM LINE: there is always something happening in this complex that is enough to make me feel 100% unsafe in my home.

#2: Management:
A few weeks ago, I walked out to my car one morning heading to work, to find that my car was missing. Immediately thinking that it had been stolen (see my safety issues above) I called the office. I was told that it had been towed for unknown reasons and that I would be called back asap after they had contacted the towing company, this was around 9:30am. By 2:00pm, and multiple phone follow-ups on my end with no response, I was finally contacted by the office and was told, "you're going to need to contact the towing company yourself, here's the number." When explaining that I was not going to pay for this tow, as it was completely unauthorized, I was spoken to very rudely and told that the car was towed because the license plates were expired. I quickly find out that TWOEC is in contract with a towing company and allows them to scan through the neighborhood looking for cars to tow. While I can see they may need to have an established relationship with a company in case of abandoned vehicles, it was clearly not the case with my situation. After I assured the management that the towing company was at fault (I knew my plates were not expired) and that they have allowed this company to basically steal my vehicle, I was treated no better. The management was insistent that they had no responsibility over the matter and my vehicle was expired, and because it was expired and parked, it was considered abandoned. I was extremely upset and saddened that a management company who spends so much time on this site pretending to look helpful and professional, was horribly rude, irresponsible, unprofessional and in no way whatsoever willing to help. I was forced to take matters into my own hand and spend the entire day working with the towing company (Interstate towing at South & Delaware)- during of which I was threatened by an employee named Ryan who told me he would do worse things to my car if I didn't cooperate and pay because it was still in his possession. Finally at 11pm at night, after an entire day wasted on this matter, my car was released free of charge, because as I had originally insisted, my license plates were not expired, and the company was 100% at fault. To make matters worse, my car's (which is a stick shift) clutch is now severely damaged and will need to be replaced, because it was towed while in gear. For this, I am considering legal representation to resolve. I thought my car was stolen, wasn't contacted for almost 5 hours after being told by management they would "call right back", treated and spoken to like dirt, refused help, threatened, missed a day of work b/c management wouldn't claim any form of responsibility or offer any form of help at all. This was truly one of the most miserable days of my life and it makes me sick to my stomach when I think about how poorly TWOEC handled it. Their #1 priority is to help themselves, not you.

BOTTOM LINE: TWOEC is a shady and corrupt company in business with other equally as horrible people. They will do everything they can to push off responsibility and will not come through to help at any expense. Don't trust a word they say.

#3: TWOEC in general:
- I've been going to a laundry mat to wash my clothes, as the washer/dryers in TWOEC's facilities rarely will work. Out of a wall of 8 dryers, I had to memorize the two dryer numbers that actually work.

- There are always, always, people loitering in the streets- especially unattended children. There have been multiple occasions when kids have darted in front of my car because their parents are nowhere in sight to take care of them.

- The streets inside the community are very narrow and nobody follows the speed limit. People take the sharp corners very fast and in the middle of the road. Driver beware.

- TWOEC claims a strict restriction on dog breeds allowed- though my neighbors and many, many other people throughout the neighborhood, own pitbulls.

- Because you're so close to a wooded area, expect a lot of bugs in your apartment during the spring/ summer months. Spiders galore.

Overall, I thought the area was charming and I liked that it seemed slightly secluded and very pleased at the cost for the apartment. I had very high hopes and was very excited and happy to move in here. I'm very saddened to think of how my opinion changed so dramatically in just a year. I am very let down by the experience and service I have had with TWOEC. The cost of living in Indy is very cheap and you can find plenty higher of a value for your dollar than this apartment complex.

And regardless of what the management will write in response to this to save face. I'm telling you now, don't be fooled by it like I was a year ago.

FROM THE WOODS OF EAGLE CREEK MANAGEMENT TEAM: Crime has no address, and in a large city such as Indianapolis, crime can strike in any neighborhood at any time. The Woods of Eagle Creek understands that this is an unfortunate reality, especially during economic hardships, such as the times we all live in now. Extra measures have been taken for the prevention of crime. Flyers, phone calls, and word of mouth are used consistently to set up crime watch meetings on a regular basis. The result of these meetings not only has helped in crime prevention but has also brought many residents and staff together in a family-like bond. IPD officers have been contracted to patrol our neighborhood and keep an open line of communication with our neighbors. In an attempt to keep the community free of abandoned cars, a towing company is permitted to enter the neighborhood on a regular basis. Any car that appears to be in violation of any Indiana state driving law is given a 72 hour notice prior to being towed. Within this 72 hour time period residents or guest are directed to speak with the office or towing company in dispute of a violation. In the event that an error is made by the towing company, this misunderstanding can be cleared prior to towing. Conformation to policy is monitored by The Woods of Eagle Creek Management team. When a situation that management is not aware of is brought to attention, it is followed up with. If there is specific situation that you are finding in the community, I would be glad to take appropriate steps to ensure that these items are rectified. We feel it is important to keep an open line of communication with our residents to make the Woods of Eagle Creek the best possible place to live in Indianapolis! I would be glad to talk with you about your specific issues and concerns. Sincerely, Liz Claypool, Property Manager
