I moved into the Continental about a year ago, upon the recommendation of some family friends. I have yet to regret my decision. Although the rent is a little high ($815/mo for a 780 sq.ft. 1BR apartment in comparison to $620/mo for a 650 sq.ft. 2BR in a less high-end locale in Indy), I think it's worth it for the location.
The leasing office is very friendly and always willing to help. The maintenance staff has been quick to respond to requests and has kept a good attitude when dealing with after-hours requests. Cats are allowed, for a $200 deposit and an extra $15/mo. It's really worth it for me!
The 24-hour gym is really pretty nice. There are some commercial-grade treadmills, ellipticals, and one recumbent bike machine that I tend to use more often, but there are also stairmasters, free weights, and a lifting machine available for use. I'm hesitant to use the free tanning beds because of the danger of exposing your skin too long to brand-new bulbs (or not long enough to very old bulbs), and there is no monitoring of when those bulbs are replaced.
People have mentioned parking as a problem. There is a free surface lot behind the building, as well as parking provided after-hours to the side of the building. I work outside of Indianapolis, so I get up early enough in the mornings to avoid towing or tickets. I decided to pay an extra $75/mo for a garage spot, and although the parking garage is narrow for my big Grand Prix, it's worth it. In the year that I've been here, I've never had my car broken into, and I even have seen someone with a convertible Audi TT leave the top down in the parking garage.
One thing that people don't realize is that Indianapolis zoning regulations to NOT require downtown apartment buildings to provide any parking whatsoever. The fact that Vermont Place provides a free lot and auxilary evening/weekend parking to the side of the building is a huge benefit that they don't have to provide. I know of several low-income, variable-rent buildings very close to Vermont Place that do not provide any parking to their residents.
If you want to live here, try to get a unit that is on the North side of the building. You will pay more, but the view definitely worth the extra rent. I haven't found safety to be an issue, and I'm a single 22-year-old girl. Indianapolis isn't really a very dangerous city, and as long as you stay out of poorly lit areas, you'll be fine. There are a number of security cameras installed in the back parking lot for added safety.
All in all I've been really happy with my apartment. It's plenty big with an open floor plan, and the big bay windows are really great. The rent is quite affordable for the location, and the location is, in a word, amazing. I frequently walk to the mall, movie theatre, Canal, museums, restaurants, concerts, and athletic games. Everything you could possibly want is no more than about 7 blocks from Vermont Place. There have been a few annoying residents - the guy who lives next to me has occasionally had his TV too loud at night, and people sometimes get away with smoking inside the front lobby when it's cold outside. Other than that, I really have no complaints.
