I would not recommend these apartments. They are too small and falling apart and in a bad neighborhood. It is a girly building all painted pink inside with tacky flowery prints on the walls. But, even if you like that kind of stuff, there are a lot of better options around Indy... you just have to do some research online. Oh.. and don't believe all the good reviews you see here, they were written by the landlord!

I can confirm that the good reviews were NOT written by the landlord. Anyone who knows him AT ALL knows that he has no desire to sit around and waste his time making up fake things about his apartments. Future renters--come see the place for yourself and meet the landlord, I think you'll quickly know who is telling the truth.

I don't live at the Victoria. I have reviewed all of the comments for the Victoria that contain a score of less than 5.0. I discounted the 5.0 scores because my readings about other apartments tell me that virtually none, even the best, get that many high scores. It seemed likely, to me, that management was involved in padding the scores.
Added support for this suspicion came from topics emphasized in some of the 5.0 scores, such as that Doug takes everybody out for Christmas dinner, and that there is a cookout in the spring. These did not seem, to me, to be the sorts of things that would draw special attention from people who have lived in the place every day for a year or more.
From reading the comments accompanying the scores below 5.0, including the eight responses to the "No No No" posting of 7/8/05, I have reached some tentative conclusions.
First, it appears that Doug is too involved in tenants' lives. There are complaints that he hits on the women, and that he is constantly watching residents' arrivals and departures. At this distance, this does appear to be the type of person who would be perhaps excessively sensitive to critical postings on this webpage.
Second, the concern that Doug is posting misleading responses on this webpage, if justified, would fit with other indicia of duplicity. There are complaints of being essentially scammed by late fees and so forth. Again, it is difficult for an observer to know, from a distance, what actually happened in those cases; but I, personally, found that those complaints were presented plausibly and that the responses were not very convincing. I also note that the Apartments.com webpage for this property claims that tenants' electric bills "may run about $20/month." This is obvious lowballing. I don't believe I have had an electric bill that low since the 1980s.
Finally, speaking of utilities, I am concerned about the heat. The Apartments.com ad for this property says that the place has been "freshly restored." This would call for a firsthand inspection. If it does appear that they have replaced the single-pane windows with modern double-panes, and have otherwise cleaned up the property, that could be a positive sign. Nonetheless, when the landlord is supplying the heat, it is naturally tempting for him/her to spend as little as possible on it. I would be especially concerned that this landlord would do so.
Assuming the circuits can bear it, an alternative (other than using the oven to heat the place) would be to buy some space heaters and room air conditioners; but in that case I would expect the electric bill to be at least $75-100 per month in even the smallest apartment.
Let's just say that I have many years of experience as a renter, and am not convinced that a manager of a quality apartment would tend to find him/herself at the center of a cluster of accusations and retorts like those that appear here. I certainly am not seeing this sort of thing at the ApartmentRatings.com webpages for the other Indianapolis properties I am now considering.

Were they small when you moved in? Did they shrink? Change the color on you? Add this to your idiot reviewer who "doesn't live there" but who has time to write a virtual novel on why its so horrible and even to speculate as to the utility costs? Both of you clearly living a vendetta, alternative lifestyle. You guys make it hard for real reviewers to see past your crap. List SOME facts so you can enjoy credibility at least some where in your lives! If you got evicted for non-payment move on, do better in your next apartment, job, relationship, whatever. Trying to sound like things shrink, change color and to write a "apartment mystery novel" based on "not living here" is a sad state of affairs. Sounds as though someone isn't getting laid! Too much Playstation3 or too many visits to the Unicorn? Oh, Sherlock, my last electric bill was $17.27. Go figure.

This is the silliest thing ever. These aprtments are nice. I live here so I know it to be true. The comment above must be written with crayon by mental patient. So silly I don't understand it. And why post anonymous? Be proud of your statements and support them if true.
