I have loved living at Victoria Apartments. Before moving in I had read through all of the reviews on this site and had some concerns. I decided to check it out for myself and found it to be precisely what I needed. I can tell you that I haven t personally had any of the problems that the negative reviews have claimed. The only thing that I can think of that requires a little practice is the radiator heat in the winter but it is what it is. Personally, I leave the bathroom radiator on and the main radiator off and that keeps my apartment at a comfortable 72 degrees in the winter (plus it doubles as a towel warmer ). The apartments are clean and tastefully refurbished. The grounds are lovely, especially in the spring and summer. The neighbors are quiet and nice. The staff and owner are genuinely friendly, helpful, and promptly respond to any concerns or questions. I park in the lot and thus have not had any problems with my car, and I have only seen one person with their window smashed in the past 11 months. I feel like general rules apply for street parking, if you don t leave anything valuable-looking in your car, your windows won t get smashed. Regarding safety, I am female and I come and go at all hours, often on foot, and have never felt unsafe. I ve lived here for nearly a year and it has truly been my favorite apartment experience. (I have a 10 year renting history, including in NYC.) I m planning to move out only because I will be buying a house upon starting residency. I would recommend that anyone planning to move downtown check out these apartments for yourself and see if you think they will fit your need. I consider them to be the right price in the right location. They are especially convenient it you work downtown or if you are affiliated with IUPUI (you can catch the people mover for free). The newly renovated central library branch is also quite near.
