Beware of Flooding

Do not live in the northwest corner of this complex unless you like having your car totaled by flash floods and your apartment coated in raw sewage.

The parking lot by the leasing office was under water after this weekend's recent storms. My car and my friend's car were both in water up to their windshields; they're both totaled. Several other people lost their cars as well, more cars suffered severe water damage. The road that runs parallel to the fair train tracks was under a good four feet of water. The area northwest of the leasing office was submerged. The property was not set up to drain properly and there are areas that flood with even a little rain, so when there's a lot of rain they REALLY flood. The sewers backed up and my toilet/bathtub overflowed with raw sewage. I had to ruin all my pillows and blankets trying to contain the sewage flood as I bailed it out by hand.

The maintenance response to the flooding was unacceptable. I called Emergency Maintenance the mminute my bathroom turned into a sewer fountain, but they didn't respond until the next afternoon. When they first came, they vacuumed the wet carpet and sprinkled some sanitizer on it... and didn't even touch the bathroom itself. It took the maintenance crew almost a week to come clean up the flood mess. I had to call multiple times, get really bitchy with the leasing office, and sic the Marion County Health Department on them to get them to finish the job. (If I hadn't called the Health Dept, I'd probably STILL be waiting on them to clean up the bathroom.) I was without a usable bathroom for that whole time. I had to go to a friend's house to pee or take a shower.

The flooding itself isn't the management's fault. That's obviously a combination of the weather and the city's antiquated sewer systems. But whether it's the city's fault or not, that doesn't change the fact that this apartment complex is very prone to flooding and YOUR property is at risk. That the leasing office did such a terrible job coordinating the flood clean up was just salt in the wound. Like keeping your stuff dry' Don't live here.
