Rude management, incompetent maintenance

Over 3 years I have seen management and staff come and go. The current crop of misfits is rude and unhelpful. They have lost a rent check, failed to inform us our lease was running out, and when we did end up resigning it, they lost it. We've left messages that have never been returned, and then they blame us for not contacting them to start. Also, they try to impose a rent increase each year you live there, but you can fight it. Either tell them you won't pay it, or just don't respond to their calls concerning resigning your lease. Evertually they will let you resign at your current payment.

Maintenance is slow and incompetent. We did not have air conditioning for a week when we moved in, and we were without a shower for 3 days because of a worker's mistake. There is no communication between the maintenance and office. When they do finally respond to a call, the quality varies based on the worker who is doing the job. Some have been excellent, even fixing things that we didn't realize needed to be done. Water damage has been a problem in our building, they let a third floor apartment leak all night and didn't inform us of it until we woke up in the morning to a soaking carpet. Other times they will just come out to spray Kilz on the spot; they have gotten it on our belongings a few times because they were too lazy to move them. Another time we had a leaking water pipe in the bathroom ceiling; after spraying it a few times with Kilz and realizing that it wasn't going away, they fixed the pipe ... leaving holes in our bathroom ceiling for a month. When they came back to repair the holes, they didn't bother to tell us or even to move our stuff out of the bathroom, getting dust and paint on everything.

Grounds are boring, the paint on the outside is flaking off. They are currently replacing the shingles. A few months ago the resident center had a fire and they have yet to repair the damage. It looks very ghetto. All they seemed to do was move into the leasing center/clubhouse and pocket the insurance money. This also means the pool is closed and the rec room is gone. So much for amenities. Community activities seem to be limited to the crime watch; at least the old management tried things like pizza and fun activites. They also pulled out the basketball goals a few years ago but left the courts in. The tennis courts are cracked and overgrown with weeds. There are a lot of patios that are covered with crap, broken furniture and appliances.

Security is an issue ... several people have complained about gun shots and car damage. Lighting is bad, and if one is out you generally have to complain to get it fixed. There used to be patrol cars at night, but this has gone away. About they only thing they go after is parked cars, and they get a cut of that. I hadn't driven my car in a few months because of a medical problem and they tagged it anyway, it just hadn't moved; the plates were fine and the tires were full. They were going to tow it anyway so I had to have it moved to someone's home.

Also, don't be fooled by the "AIMCO Home Planner" program, it only applies if you use their mortgage and relocation companies. The 24-hour maintenance guarantee is also a joke, unless you get the home office involved. Expect to get laughed at if you do try to get the credit.

If you do live here, make sure you have renters' insurance!!!

As an employee of this office, there are a few things about your viewpoint that are incorrect. There was a fire in the clubhouse a few months ago, and we cannot have it fixed overnight. Actually, the hold up has been because the architects are wanting to turn the building into a resident services center, which would have tons of ammenities for our residents. However this takes a while to draw up, plus get bids from various construction companies. The pool being closed at that clubhouse was a safety precaution for our residents in that from the damage of the fire there could be nails, broken glass etc, that we wouldn't want people to get hurt on.
We also have had several community functions over the summer. We had a huge pool party where we hired a DJ, cooked out food, and handed out prizes. We have had pizza parties and other gatherings as well.
Last month, we hired a new security company for the complex, and since hiring them we have received zero complaints in this department. If things are not reported to us, we do not know about them.
We are also in the process of getting all new lighting for the property from IPL, which would be the ten foot tall high wattage lamps that would be difficult for people to break, which is what has happened to most of our current fixtures.
And, wouldn't you assume the AIMCO Home Planner program would involve AIMCO's mortgage, etc. companies?

The above employee sounds rude, why would I want to live somewhere an employee actually says someones complaint in invalid. These people were found at the unemployment office.

I was thinking about moving in but all reading this I'M Not that's so much. THe Employee had no right to dismiss your complaints instead of doing something about it. Seems very rude & makes too many excuses.
