Content with Phase II

I've lived at Bent Tree Phase II for a little over a year now and plan on renewing my lease even with the rent increase. We will probably stay until we are ready to buy a home.
I read the previous reviews and the reviewers neglect to mention which section of Bent Tree they live in. Check out http://imaps.indygov.org/cvc/default.asp and you will see that Phase I is where most of the crime is at. BTW... that is a great link provided by Marion County, so use it to check any area you are considering. I had friends that lived in Phase I and they had problems with vandelism, parking and neighbors that would have eight to a 2 bedroom apartment.
Those apartments are also gas/electric and had high gas bills. The same friends moved to the all electric apartments in Phase II two years ago and haven't had problems since. Also the rent might be a little bit higher in Phase II but your utility bills will be a lot cheaper, so truthfully it is a better deal.
Maintenace has always been quick in responding to emergencies (usually within fifteen minutes to thirty minutes) and there have been several times when I have been at the office for a non-emergency request and Jamie (head maintenance) walked back with me to my apartment and fixed it right then. The only issue that wasn't resolved was them repainting my hallway after a leak upstairs discolored my ceiling and walls. This was actually a good thing, because my neighbors water heater went out this weekend, and they would have to wait to repaint anyway.
They also recently put up new siding, roofs, new outside lighting around the lakes and parking lot and carpet in the halls. I think it would have been nice if they had repainted inside, but I won't gripe, because the next group of people who move in are only going to scuff them again. There is also a new fitness room with all new equipment and a rockwall. It does cost $25 to get a key fob, but I don't mind because I have the peace of mind that not just anybody is going to be hanging out there and they electronically track who comes and goes.
Noise isn't that bad. Well atleast now that they have finished the roof and siding. I sometimes can hear the downstairs neighbors music, but if I turn on the tv at a normal level, it drowns it out.
I do also suggest if you don't have kids, and don't want to be in a building with kids, to get a one bedroom with den/office. The apartment is pretty close in size to a 2 bedroom but without the second closet. That way you don't hear little elephants running back in forth constantly from your ceiling.
I also have never had to deal with a manager, the office staff have always been able to take care of me. Matthew, Jillian and Brian have always been quick and friendly. Even if they are with another resident, every one of them makes a point to say hello, I have never felt ignored.
I am also not afraid to take my garbage out at night, and for the most part the neighbors will atleast say "Hi" or hold the door for you if you have groceries.
There are always going to be issues and things that annoy you no matter where you live and for the most part I am content. Nothing to raise my blood pressure over or get upset about. And if things change for the better or for the worse I will be sure to update my review.

Does it really matter what Phase of the apartments people live at? All of the premises should be safe. Not just Phase II. This also sounds like you are friend of the office as much detail as you know of the other units. And the management staff....I lived there three years and not one of the people that worked in the office then is there now. In fact they have had more turnover at that office than most others. You can ask Brian about that. They were brought in to "help" get things back on track. I respect your opinion, but the other 78% of us will not recommend these apartments to anyone we know or care about.

Unfortunately it does what matter which Phase, as it often does in other communites in the same price range. I have read reviews for other communities, where residents suggest living in certain sections (the entrance, the side facing the main road, etc), so I did the same. If my friends (actually two different groups of roomies) who moved from Phase I to Phase II hadn't told me about the gas/electric difference, and other problems they had/hadn't, I would have made the mistake of going for the cheaper apartments. Friend of the office, no. Friendly, yes. No matter how pissed off at the time I am about a situation, I usually get my way if I remain calm, make a joke and not lay blame on anyone. However, I read your review and realized you were in a very frustrating situation, so I understand your contempt. And you are right about the turnover. Not a single person who was in that office when I signed my lease is still there. However, a few months later I walked in and there was Matthew and a team of people who are still there, most of who know either my name or unit #.

Thank you for the kind words. Everyone keeps saying no one has been in this office that long, but I am the Assistant Manager and I have been here for two years. I would be happy to help the other poster or anyone else that may have things that need addressed. A lot of things have changed since I came here two years ago, and I hope they continue to improve. And by the way, we are going to paint the hallway interiors at the beginning of next year. If you go into the first two buildings on Ramblewood, 3160 and 3180, you can see what the hallways will all look like when we are done.
