Cons:
This was my first year of apartment living and let me just say it was a shock. This place is below average at best. When we first moved in, we had major problems with the keys in the front door and we still have problems with it, though it has been "fixed" twice. If you leave your windows or sliding door open, prepare to be bombarded with the sounds of screaming children, blaring music, and really loud cars. Not that I'd leave my windows open anyways, since the screens are almost falling off, which is dangerous with cats that like to jump on window sills. Not to mention that's when all the ants and spiders like to crawl in, even though the place is sprayed with pesticides every three to four months. The drivers here drive waaaaaaaay too fast, especially with all of the children running rampant around the complex (without supervision I might add), and my car got backed into a few months ago because of a careless driver. A lot of guys like to loiter around, just sitting on their cars, blaring their music, and leering at any girl who walks by alone (which is very creepy at night).

During the summer it is hot and during the winter it is freezing, despite multiple maintenance men checking and saying it was fine. Maintenance was really slow and it even took the guy an hour just so he could grab a "ladder" (which turned out to be a step stool) and put some nails in a shelf. The closet door ran off its tracks and is still off, again after being fixed. The laundry room is just nasty and I would advise you not to live on the bottom floor since the laundry room floods once in a while.

I have had trouble with people parking in my carport spot (which I pay $20 a month for) and parking is a mess. Even when there are spots, people just park wherever they want to. I have gotten multiple letters saying that I haven't paid rent yet, even though I paid it early, or on the first. To their credit, Sherry (who is gone now I think') cleared it up without any problems each time. The hallway of my building often smells bad (either pot or smoke) and if people are talking in the hallway, you can hear everything from your apartment.

I really don't see what they allegedly renovated. The paint job is crap. Every time we open our bedroom door, you hear a loud crack because the paint is too thick on the door jamb. Also, when we first moved in, it was filthy! After my boyfriend walked around barefoot for about a day, his feet were black and don't even get me started on the condition of the shower. We had to wash it about 6 times before I would even let my feet touch it.

In the complex, you can see the police at least once a week and a fight at least once a month. I also hear sirens elsewhere about once a day or so. Just one street over, they had to shut down the area because a gunman was hiding in one of the abandoned buildings, of which there are many around here. There is also a problem with potholes, though not as major as another place I checked out.

You can't really just have warm water in the sinks. It's basically scalding or coolish. It's just too much of a hassle to fiddle around with it for a couple minutes to get warm water. The appliances aren't too great and the fridge was dirty when we moved in. The dishwasher didn't have a silverware basket, although management did get us one when we alerted them.

Pros:
I like the roughly $60 student discount. The 2 bedroom apartment is pretty spacious and I love the walk in closet. Pretty good amount of closet space throughout the apartment. The office staff has never been rude to me and my neighbors aren't bad. Rent seems pretty fair based on the size of the place. I like that the complex is so close to the places I need to go.

I posted the comment on July 5, 2007. Needless to say that I am still here all due to your pros of the complex. I have noticed the change since the prior mgr evicted serveral bc of their out-of-control kids. My problems are the same cold in winter hot in summer, at least in the back of apt. closets off track, have not painted since Ive been here which is three years. I have a 3drom 2 full baths and almost 1300 sqft and pay a very nice. They have not raised my rent and I get a student discount. As you, I love the location and the convenience. Im the 1st bldg at the entrance facing Allisonville so I see none of the complex except when I drop off rent. So of course my area must look appealing for passerbys. The people in my bldg has ALL been in this bldg for at least 6 yrs and one for 18. So we are very close and aware which is another pert. Hopefully since Van Rooy has taken over we will see a major change. I plan on moving next year but in this economy the price and sqft is not bad. They just REALLY NEED TO PUT SOME WORK INTO THE APARTMENT AS THEIR ADVERTISMENT STATES AND GET THE COMPLEX BACK TO THE ORIGINAL CONDITION BACK IN THE 80s.

You said prior manager. I think she was the Supervisor. What happened her? She was the white lady with dark hair who you saw around talking to residents and the maintenace men/supervisor with the white Kohner truck. While she was here she did evict the bad kids, told me she'd keep my rent the same if I signed a one year lease and the property was the cleanest it had ever been. Sherry was nice but she was so overwhelmed with it all. Now we have another manager.(The third in six months) and she brings her kids to work. I have lived here over ten years and I really thought things were turning around last spring. Now it's more of the same.
