Memorable Experience

I lived at Walden during my Junior and Senior years at Butler University. I shared the apartment with my three best friends in the world and it was a wonderful experience. We had a very spacious 3 bedroom 2 bath apartment and then grill attached to the stove was awesome. We had a beautiful view of the swimming pool area and our balcony was lovely (pet squirrel included). They actually had several floorplans available at the time and we got to pick just where we'd like to live. Not to forget the washer and dryer in the apartment was WELL WORTH the nominal fee we paid to have them.

As with all apartments we had some not so great experiences too such as:
1) Having our refrigerator die 3 times before they finally decided it was time to replace it. (the new one was fabulous)
2) Very thin floors. We lived on the second floor and were constantly getting complaints from the people who lived downstairs about our noisy walking. (sometimes when we weren't even home)
3) Strange black gummy/sticky spot on bedroom carpeting which refused to be removed even after it was attempted to be cleaned twice.
4) Finally, they may have changed this by now but we were given the choice between "harvest gold and avacado green" bathrooms. Let me tell you we went with the green but both were UUUUGGGGLLLLLYYYY. lol

It was only minutes from campus and was very close to shopping (we could even hear the racetrack faintly in the distance in May... pretty cool). Overall I would recommend the stay to anyone.

I had called the Walden with the intentions of possibly moving from my nice $850 per month lakeside condo only because I am trying to cut expenses due to the high cost of gasoline, medical bills and so forth. After reading all that was said by previous tenants and not of it was positive, I'll stay where I'm at or look for something just as nice or close to nice, for a little less. It had crossed my mind why the Walden could rent, what seemed to be such nice apartments on the outside, for such little money. Now I know. My sister lived there back in the 80s and I just adored the apartments then. I remember the Jenn-Air grill and always wanted one. However, I do believe the Walden was owned by someone other than who owns it now. The Walden has so much potentil to be a great place to live, i.e., location, access to interstate, shopping and many other features. What they may want to do is reconsider changing management companies and owners and get someone who cares and also owners that are local. If the owners do not live in the City or State, there is no way they would ever know nor care to know that goes on in the complex. Long story short, after reading all of the comments from unhappy tenants, I will look elsewhere. Sometimes, you may need to start from ground "0". By this I mean, weed out all of the tenants who don't want a safe and comfortable place, and start over by being more selective about who you put in the apartments. It seems as if you have just put people in the apartments, no matter who they are and what they are all about, just to fill the units. A good example of what I mean about starting from gound "0" is the apartments located near 30th & Lafayette Road (near Ritter High School). They have done a complete renovation, weeded out the low-lifes and are now more selective who they are putting in their units. The apartments are very nice; however, they do not have any garages, which is what attracted me to The Walden. I hope they get it together soon or it will become a total ghetto -- and I say all of this as an --------American. God Speed!
