Not a bad place

This place wasn't too shabby. Altogether, I liked my experience with them. Being a Purde graduate student, they gave me a nice discount on my rent, and were very attentive to my needs -- WHILE I was a resident. I encountered some problems when I decided to leave.

The problem came when I realized my rental discount was effective only when I had a full year or 6-month contract. When I decided to leave, I had no control over the date, but their contracts only run January to January (yearly), or January to June (6-month). Lord help you if you decide to leave on an odd month. You'll either have to sublet your apartment (if you can find a renter) or switch to a month-to-month lease. I was forced to do the latter, and they REALLY jacked my rent up -- almost $100 more a month. After I left, I got a bill for apartment maintenance. I sent several messages asking why I was charged, but received no answer -- only a threat to send a collector after me if I didn't pay (that was rude). I wouldn't have been so upset if I hadn't had them do a "maintenance tune-up" (a cool offer they give their residents to do a free maintenance check-up whenever they wish) only a month prior. To this day, I keep wondering: Why did you guys bill me'' You were so nice to me until I needed to leave.

Overall, this place is a corporate-run facility, managed by Edward Rose Apartments of Indiana. They're very good at what they do, and if I have to rent again in my life, I'll try to find an Edward Rose apartment. However, I WILL be checking my lease-breaking agreements first . . .

P.S. -- I have to give the staff a 5-star rating, even with the lease-breaking problem. They were always having holiday parties and get-togethers for their residents (on their tab). I found coupons and invitations in my mailbox almost every week. One Christmas party even had horse-drawn carriage rides. They even sent me a BIRTHDAY card! What managment goes THAT far for you these days''

P.P.S. -- Minor complaint about the laundry: They had only one coin-operated washer and drier for a 12-unit complex. Made it a little difficult to get laundry done. However, when I left, they were thinking about building an on-site 24-hour laundry facililty.

P.P.P.S. (last one, I promise) -- This place is about 10 miles from Purdue university. That's about a 20-minute drive during morning rush-hour. There's a bus route that goes right by the apartment, and it's free to all Purdue students, but it takes about 45 minutes to get to the university with a layover in downtown Lafayette.
