I moved in on a temporary basis (6 months) and paid in advance. When moving out they refused to return my overpayment and have yet to return my overpayment or security deposit in spite of numerous phone calls.

Take them to small claims court! I had to in order to get my security deposit back. It took awhile but I did receive it.
