Don't move here...

I lived at Summerwood for 2 months and actually couldn't take it anymore and paid an extra months rent to get out of my lease. This was about a 1 1/2 to 2 years ago. The office staff was HORRIBLE. The property manager (Trish) at the time was completely clueless and could care less how happy you are. The drywall on our apartment by the entry way was peeling. Our stove went out after 2 uses. We brought in our own washer and dryer that we own to hook up and the connections were faulty. It took 3 days to get that repaired. When you walk into the building, you can smell dogs. The noise is unbelievable. Our neighbor on the top floor had 3 kids and it was constant screaming. People run up and down the halls night and day. The area is not well lit and is always in the paper regarding theft, burglary and vehicle damage. The laundry facility on site was ALWAYS a dump. 1/2 the machines were not even operative. I honestly can't think of too many nice things to say about the property. I moved to Huntington Cove in Merrillville and lived there for two years and I never had a problem. Maintenance there is fairly decent, little noise and you get a fully functional washer and dryer. I would recommend you go there. It's only a couple mile difference. Best of luck!

no they have not changed. I'm living in summer wood right now! And I absolutely hate it! Rent is too high. The "maintenance" is unprofessional! The property manager now, Phil, is a complete ------- and he does not give a care about how many time my apartment door has been broken into, or about the two time my car window has been smashed in! When there was nothing in it both times! Then to top it all off I have a nice car and then I have a winter beater car. Came home one day, my nice car was gone. Called the office and they daid they towed it at my expense, because it didn't have a license plate on it. I said if that's true it's because one of your residents stole it! We were arguing and he hung up on me. If you move here you will regret it. It's not just the staff, the apartments look great when you move in. Give it a month or two and you'll feel like you're living in gary!

So true, the apartments do look nice when you move in, but just wait a couple weeks. This is not an apartment community, this is a Gary housing authority...
