The closer to the front of the complex the safer you are; STAY away from the back apartments. The cost was cheaper than just about every other complex in South Bend, but you get what you pay for. The complex is close to shopping areas, and all the local colleges. I feel safe coming in and going out most of the time, but by no means all the time.

First, I had to pay extra for a lush wooded view which is a row of trees and poison ivy thats views the backside of someone else's apartment. I requested a unit without a balcony, there were plenty available, but I was not given one, "none were available" yet the higher priced units were readily open. The bathroom leaks like a sieve, spots were all over the carpets, outlets don't work and there are light switches but no lights. All this from an apartment that was supposed to have just been redone with new carpets, well basically everything, so they said.

With that said, the people above are NOISY and I don't mean music noise, I mean loud, obnoxious banging that goes on for hours. The Mishawaka police visit very often and, actually know the names of the people they visit in all the apartments. Not to mention, the domestic disputes we all have to hear a little too frequently. Oh, my mail was stolen, too. The staff in the office is about as helpful as a box of rocks. They sit there, roll around from time to time, answer a few calls but cant count to 10, helpful is a farsight. Last, the heat basically kicks in when it wants to!

As for the parking, its decent, but what is better and is probably the nicest thing about hickory village is the winter cleanup. Parking lots and sidewalks are cleaned, salt is spread, and breezeways are vacuumed.

If you can afford to live somewhere else than go there,
