My lease just ended after a year of living in what my boyfriend and I call "Hickory Harlem". The management staff deffinetely does NOT do background checks when moving in tenants. The guy above us was a convicted bank robber on house arrest. We had a cocaine dealer below us. The guy across the hall sold marijuanna. This place is deffinetely the "hood" or "ghetto" of mishawaka. The police visit the complex ROUTINELY. Make sure your car has an alarm, break ins happen on a day to day basis. Our front door was kicked in TWICE and WE WERE CHARGED FOR IT! The "so called" security sleeps in his car all night. The whole complex is full of drug dealers and gang bangers. I know people who have been robbed at gun point, raped and even threatened while living in Hickory Village. The apartments are VERY VERY cheap I cant begin to list everything that went wrong in the time we lived there. Hall lights often go out and never get fixed. Safety is a BIG concern living there. I STRONGLY STRONGLY STRONGLY STRONGLY STRONGLY suggest looking somewhere else, yes the rent is cheap but we actually moved out 2 months early and still paid off of our lease just to get away of the unruly noise and behavior of other tenants. The summer is full of partying, loud banging music can be heard almost all through out the day and night. The management does nothing about this at all. STAY AWAY FROM HICKORY VILLAGE...DO NOT LIVE THERE...ESPECIALLY WITH CHILDREN!!!! HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND LOOKING SOMEWHERE ELSE! The ammenities are crap. The pool was closed numerous times over the summer because of "accidents" in it! I would rather go swimming in the river than in their pool. Our dryer caught on fire NUMEROUS times. The maintanence seems to be convicted felons as well didnt trust them in my apartment...nor did they know what they were doing took 4 hours to fix my door lock (after my apartment had been robbed).
