You Get What You Pay For
From: -Anonymous-Date posted: 1/5/2009
Years at this apartment: 2005 - 2009
I have been here for 3.5 years. When I told my former neighbor [a Mishawaka Police Officer] where I was going to be living, his comment was "Felony Village'". I am happy to say that, based on what I have seen, it has not lived up to that name.
A few annoying points:
The phone number on the sign still says area code 219 [has always been 574 in my 4 years here so that tells you how old the sign is].
Flooding in parking lots due to inadequate drainage.
Light outside door works when it wants to [not very often].
Ground floor apartments and being blinded by inconsiderate drivers with headlights, especially when warming up their cars on cold mornings [with newer cars it's probably an automatic function].
Since I have moved in the cable fee has increased from $31 monthly to $37 monthly with NO IMPROVEMENT in service or channels received [wow they added the FOOD CHANNEL about a year ago].
Electric cords were cut recently in almost all laundry rooms and locks were changed and separate keys were issued - then it happened AGAIN!
No option to pay your rent via automatic charge [credit card or bank account].
No window fixtures [curtain rods, blinds, etc] provided upon move-in [For a quick fix i used a patterned bed sheet as my living room curtain when I first moved in, then received a letter from management that my draperies were unacceptable and I had 1-2 weeks to make changes. Yes there are much worse window coverings being used in the complex - I wonder if they sent letters to those residents as well!].
Walls around windows have been patched too many times to hang a somewhat heavy-duty curtain rod.
Too many unsupervised kids in the pool during the summer [Often splashing or running - making it difficult to enjoy time at the pool].
Somewhat noisy - the walls often crack or make "settling" noises and it is way to easy to hear the upstairs neighbor walking about their apartment and I can often hear their shower [NO I don't sit around listening or eavesdropping].
Draft coming in through living room window. [Will be rectified by using clear plastic around window frame - hope not to receive another letter from management for "inadequate window fixtures"].
Good points:
Cheapest rent around [but with NO amenities].
Good maintenance staff [always have had things fixed properly in my apartment and they do a good job clearing walkways and parking lots].
Very convenient location.
Very helpful, professional, caring staff [every month when I pay my rent I am always asked "Is everything OK in your apartment'"].
Though it may seem that my negatives heavily outweigh my positives, I would consider my overall experience here to be positive. Yes you get what you pay for and I was looking for the cheapest rent around. If/when I move, I will be looking for an apartment with washer/dryer in unit, some type of covered parking [carports or garage], and a fitness facility [possibly with indoor pool - and yes this will mean that I can cancel my gym membership which i use WAY to little]. If you do not need all the bells and whistles and are looking for a good value in rent, friendly staff, convenient location, then this may be a good place for you to call home.
