I've lived here in a 1 bedroom, and a townhouse. Both are ample sized for the price and the place is actually very reasonable when you consider that they include gas and water (free heat and hot showers, kids!) in the rent. There are discounts for ND employees and grad students. If you want a washer and dryer you need a townhouse. The laundry rooms are ok, but one of the reasons I moved to a townhouse was to get a washer/dryer. The fenced backyards are a nice touch too. There are carports, but a waiting list for them.
It gets a little noisy in the summer with all the kids running around. The geese and ducks aren't quiet either and they're nondiscriminatory about where they poop - they also often stand in the road. The complex is bordered by low income housing but it seems to be safe enough both here and there. Recreational amenities are ok - tennis court, tiny gym. Lots of open grassy areas. This is a nice neighborhood for dog owners (up to 80 pounds is the limit).
The office staff is friendly, maintenance is competent. Snow clearing in the winter was halfassed at best this year, however, they were better last year. Overall, it's a pretty good place to live and convenient to most of Mishawaka as well as Notre Dame.
