I lived at Sugarbush for five years. The first year or so, it was owned and managed by AIMCO. Those were the better times. Now, it's owned by a small company out of Elwood. It's horrible.

I lived in front, right across the street from the office. The manager working there when I moved out, Sue, is ridiculous. In fact, all of the managers who have been in charge since the change in companies have sucked. I moved out, to another apartment community in Muncie, last fall and I still get physically ill when driving by Sugarbush! I am very bitter.

I had a horrible mold problem in the bathroom (the exhaust fan doesn't really work) and in the master bedroom coming out of an outlet. It never got fixed. I called and complained about it three times -- still nothing. That's the real reason why I moved out. That didn't stop them from sending me a $1000 bill afterward...I followed the rules in the lease and THEY broke it by not addressing the issue (the mold problem lasted about 10 months, isn't that a timely manner').

The tennis court lights would turn on, and stay on until 3 am. Not conducive to sleeping. The windows would all broken, in fact, one maintenance man brought me a wooden dowl rod to stick in my window to keep it up when I wanted it to be open. The halls are musty and the mailboxes aren't locked, at all, and weren't in the five years I lived there. The dish washer does not work, and they blame it on Muncie water. It wasn't new, it was at least 10 years old (no matter what they said...I don't know, maybe it was new to that particular unit). The sliding screen door was broken and nobody was able to fix it at all during the time I spent there (that's including the shifting maintenance men). The a/c takes hours to cool the entire apartment (which, again, they blame that on the notion that the walls are too warm). The heat is very inefficient, smelling like burnt skin when it blows out. The refridgerator made a chirping noise, so they finally replaced it (after about 4 months of complaining). The new one came complete with a huge dent on the front door. The oven wasn't consistent, which made cooking very difficult. That was finally replaced, although it was just a newer version of the same oven (and had a more mild form of inconsistency). The light fixtures throughout the apartment mostly hang on the metal sprongs located by the bulbs, which promises numerous random breakings (they do get replaced by the maintence team if you call to complain, but the glass fixture they bring you will most likely not match the other frosted globes that are located throughout your apartment). The tennis court was very uneven and the pool was closed on numerous occasions for health violations.

There is a woman in the office, Jennifer, who was always very pleasant. That's the only positive I can think of regarding this property.

I am also saddened by this lady's experience. Based off of what she said I would never think we lived in the same complex. I could not be happier with my home!

I am sad that this lady had such a bad experience. I myself have had a wonderful experience in the 2 years that I have been here and would reccomend Sugarbush to anyone.

Wow, i feel like we lived in two different places, and what I am baffled by is the fact you lived there five years... That doesn't make sense, if you were that miserable and conditions were that horrific and dangerous for you, why would you stay there. Not only did I live there, but I also work for the Health Inspection, and I can tell you for a fact, without hesitation, there is no mold growing, unless a resident has poor cleaning habits and I mean it would have to be bad.... And the mold that forms from uncleanliness, is not the kind of mold you would blame management or the complex for. Living in a place for 5 years, in the "conditions" you described, makes one wonder how much truth is in your review, and exactly how much spitefulness...

I have confirmed with the county health inspector that there is no investigation going on at Sugarbush. I am a resident and I was concerned about this. If I was the owner of Sugarbush I would prosecute you for your lies. These are peoples home and you are scaring people for no reason so please stop this nonsense.

This is a special investigation, so only certain people are privy to this information. This isn't about scaring people, this is about fixing the property. You can't prosecute truth and you can't deny photographs proving the health risks associated with the mold growth in these units. It is not resident-related mold, but structural issues that have created an environment where mold can grow easily. I'm pleased that Sugarbush as began replacing windows as this is a good-faith sign. Please be patient and understanding. We just want to make sure everyone is healthy and safe.
