Absolutely TERRIBLE

Windermere Place, like the title implies, is a TERRIBLE place to call home.

I moved in thinking it would be a nice place to live for a college student, but it turned out to be anything but. The apartments themselves are decent enough I suppose, but that's only because they're relatively newer and spacious. After I moved in, things started off ok, but then went slowly downhill until it got to the point where I hated coming home at night.

The only positive about these apartments is that the units are spacious and furnished. HOWEVER, they are poorly built. The walls are thin and let in cold air during the winter and humid air during the summer. I can hear people coming and going on the stairs, and front doors opening and closing on both floors below me when I sleep. Windows are noisy and drafty, especially during the winter. The HVAC is slow and takes forever to heat or cool the apartment. The furniture in the unit is adequate enough, although the rooms get super dusty easily. The fire alarms are super sensitive and have gone off at least three times, although that may be potentially a good thing.

Beware of the individual leases, because you WILL get placed with random roommates if your friends don't sign with you. It's like living in the dorms all over again. Their roommate matching "system" is a joke, too. I got placed with a roommate that doesn't talk and sits on the couch ALL FREAKING DAY, and another roommate that eats all my damn food. I wanted to kill myself by the time my lease was over.

The office staff is virtually non-existent, as no one in there knows what they're doing and the only excuse they have is "We'll talk to corporate about it". The management always got my rent screwed up every single month, saying that I owed them late fees even though I ALWAYS paid my full rent a week early every month. Somehow, I think they intentionally told me I had late fees in order to try and extort some extra money out of me. Maintenance is worthless too, and it took them an entire month to get me a new air filter for the furnace. I've been told by past residents that unless you have the pictures to prove that your unit was the way you found it, they will NOT hesitate to charge you for the slightest smudge on the wall. It's bad enough that the place is so expensive, but they want to charge you for any and every little detail. Rates are constantly going up and they try to force you to sign a new lease so that you can keep your "older" rate, but it definitely isn't worth it.

I wish the amenities were as great as they're advertised to be, too. The "cable TV" is horrendous and goes out constantly, and isn't even real cable at all but actually selected DirecTV channels piped in to all the units from the clubhouse. Internet sucks too, and goes out for 5 minutes every half an hour or so, and for no reason. Forget about research or Facebook, you'll be lucky if you can even connect to the Internet at all here. Windermere also forces you to have a static IP on your computer, too, so that they can track every website you've ever visited (such as this one). The grounds have dog feces everywhere because most tenants are apparently too lazy to clean up after their pets. The swimming pool is dirty, and I wouldn't be surprised if it hasn't been cleaned in years. The clubhouse is alright, but the weight room has a strange odor in it so I don't use it much. There aren't enough parking spaces for the complex, and it's especially hard to find a space after dark. And finally, my neighbors. I don't have much to say about my neighbors other than tenants here are, at best, anti-social and talk rarely, if at all.

The sad part about all of this is that Windermere could EASILY be the best place to live in Muncie if the company that manages this complex got its act together. Until then, it's still awful, and I'll be counting down the days when I can move out of this dump. I suggest looking elsewhere if you want a halfway decent place to live.

I hate living here!!! We can hear our neighbors in the apartment above us running around and talking (I can even hear when they start the shower or slam their dresser drawers). And the dryer vents are right out side each apartment's door. Well, apparently, our neighbors don't clean out their dryer vent EVER because their vent is constantly blowing out dryer lint. And since the weather is getting nasty out (i.e. rain and snow) the dryer lint sticks all over the cement and is spreading around to the entrances of the other apartments. It's disgusting. And don't worry, the office staff will not hesitate to charge you for rent you have already paid it or to charge you stupid fees for things that never happened. And then, if you don't pay them, they threaten to evict you.

It's not just you. Everyone I know that lives at Windermere HATES living at Windermere. I'm glad that someone finally exposes them for who they really are.
