okay but you get what you pay for

After two months I think I have enough of a sense of the place to write a useful review. Basically, you get what you pay for. The rental price is one of the cheapest you can get in this area that has nice grounds for a fair-sized apartment. But you get what you pay for. The apartments were built in the 70's I was told and they are falling apart, as you can see if you take a tour instead of letting them steer you to the models. Give them credit, they are very quick to fix priority problems. My new door didn't have a security chain and they fixed that within a day. When my air conditioner shorted out, they gave me temporary window ones to bridge me over the weekend and then fixed it right after. Ordinary stuff has been a little more mixed. Wouldn't fix a door latch but did check out a fridge problem. And they caught my air conditioner problem after a neighbor reported smoke, I'm told, so it was probably a fire hazard. No fire alarms so far in my building. The rug was a mess. I had to steam clean it six times, use a UV light to find the pet stains so I could enzyme and Ph spray them plus febreze. Incredible amounts of dust that I had to use a strong vacuum to remove (my guess is that they sanded the old paint but didn't vacuum it up afterwards). Contrary to another review, the lease agreement says there is no asbestos (or at least so they claim). The walls are rather thin so I can hear my neighbors too well and also the upstairs neighbor clumping around. The gym is indeed in bad shape and they don't seem interested in even replacing the missing barbells, let alone fixing the weight equipment. The cardio units are fine though. Very nice clubhouse but it's not like you'll be living there. The staff has been very nice so far so no complaints there, although make sure to get a written agreement on exactly what unit you'll be getting and for how much since they seem to like playing a bit loose and you could end up being unhappy with the final arrangements if you're not careful. I haven't seen any problems with crime or anything here but I suppose a cheap complex would be more likely to have shifty tenants. I do see lots of ordinary folks taking walks at night so I'm certainly not afraid to go out at night. Lots of folks around. So basically, my take is that it's an okay place to live but make sure you are okay with what you are getting.
