I live in one of the Carriage homes (renamed the Metropolian, for whatever reason) and it is only OK. Sure, they look great on the outside and boast a pool, BBQ, private theater, coffee bar, tanning salon and workout room, but there is more than what meets the eye. I have yet to go to the pool, but when my roommate went, he said there were dirty diapers by the chairs and it seemed dirty. The treadmills are ALWAYS breaking. You can only get up to a certain speed before the fuse blows out. The tanning bed seems unsanitary, every time I go in, there are no paper towels and sanitizer to clean up. If I feel desperate for some vitamin D, I'll bring my own cleaning supplies.
As far as the apartments go, they are...meh. Way to expensive for what you get. The bathrooms only have lights over the mirror, so the remainder of the bathroom is dark (especially when you have the curtains drawn in the shower, it makes for a shaving hazard, aha!) The stove is set crooked, so none of the food cooks evenly since the pots and pans don't sit on it property. In fact, the counters in general are off. The carpet is already pulling up (and these are NEW units) and the ceramic tile cracked and buckled in the hallway.
Now for the worst part. BUGS. Everywhere. Spiders, roaches, ants, beetles! We repeatedly ask them to spray and they say the do (which I know they haven't). And I'm talking BIG BLACK SPIDERS. The kind that crunch when you step on them! *shudder* The only good thing is they are contained downstairs (our living quarters is on the second story and only the garage and entryway is on the first).
Also, I think a good indicator of the quality of what you're living in is based on how quickly new units have been put up. Since I've lived here, I believe four buildings of luxury apartments have been build. And this is in a few short months. You will also note this by the unusually large gaps between doors and the floor, the crooked molding, light fixtures and tile.
Now that I've bashed this place, there are a few pros!
-The Metropolis Mall is in walking distance. In fact, it's very close to all the shopping in Plainfield.
-I've seen others say parking is bad, yet I have never had an issue (we have two cars, with one garage, and there has never been a problem finding a spot)
-Relatively safe. I haven't seen or had an issue with crime or riffraff.
-Fairly accommodating staff. One person moved out, and another moved in and they worked with us to revise and draft up a new lease with no fee's or strings attached.
I don't *regret* living here, but when the lease is up in October, I'll certainly be moving out.
