I lived at Stafford Point several years ago while going thru a divorce. It was great then in 1994 thru 1998. It was because of that good experience that this past year I moved back there while awaiting my new home to be ready and Stafford Point was just terrible. Old appliances, refrigerator door facing the wrong direction, bad service, etc... I moved out ONE MONTH prior to my lease being up. I therefore owed one last month's rent which I paid. I called the office and verbally told Aaron that I was moving out at the end of my lease. I thought all was fine until 6 months later I started getting harrassing calls from a collection agency. I could not imagine what this was about, so I called Stafford Point. I was told that I did not give my notice of terminating my lease in writing, therefore I owed them another month's rent as well as assorted fees. I've consulted my lawyer. SROlYjGrgm2VnM-SactV

Um...your lease probably stated that it had to be in writing. It does where I live. Verbally telling them is not enough per my lease agreement. Of course, I don't know what your lease agreement states. To be fair, though, if you've got that many tenants, you're probably not going to remember that some guy said they were moving out. Perhaps you should have read the lease agreement that you signed. If it states that it must be in writing, you have no case and you do owe the complex. It might not seem fair, but that's the legality of it. People should not sign anything without reading what they are signing!
