Overall we have liked living here. After one or two years, the different problems that arise from the old building are not that bad, but six years may be pushing it.

Pros:
-Can barely hear other tenants (including from apt above) through the walls
-high ceilings
-radiator heat can be good or bad -- I like having warmth and not having to pay heat bills, but it's very dry in the winter and we have gone through several humidifiers with the hard water buildup and the dry air
-private and quiet building
-reliable laundry facilities
-rooms available for small events
-close to downtown; can walk to restaurants, large public library, coffee shops
-parking is never a problem
-management can be flexible

Cons:
-lots of traffic noise from intersection out front, emergency room, and fire station
-not as much privacy if you live on the first floor (sidewalks are right against the building; bus stop out front)

Bad things we have witnessed:
-bat in the hallway (we've heard of this happening one other time as well)
-raccoon in the hallway
-several pipe breaks resulting in serious flooding/water damage and wall/ceiling damage
-ants
-sewage backup in toilet
-poor draining in tub and bathroom sink
-problems on and off with heat (radiator heat)
-lack of response from maintenance (only one business hour maintenance person for entire old building)

I read the other review and would not call the apartments large. Mostly there are one bedroom apts here with one or two people living in them. There is a good mix of ages, with many grad student aged people. A few older people who have lived here for many years. There is also not a doorman. There is someone working in the main office from 8 a.m. to midnight everyday except sunday: 12 noon to 6 p.m. It is good all the outside doors are locked so there is some security.
