I am aiming to hit every review site I can about Mar-Main. My experience there, as well as others who lived here while I did, has been nothing but a headache. I moved in, in October of 2007 and had NO HEAT all winter long. It's radiator heat, and when I went and complained, they said that the heat has been working fine during the day on my side of the building. I explained that I have a job, and am not home during the day so who cares if its 90 degrees all day long, I freeze at night. The good thing about this, is you don't pay utilities. So I took the liberty of protesting my lack of heat by leaving every light on in my apartment all day long, and 4 space heaters. Parking is a NIGHTMARE. You need to make sure you ask about the "wait list" for parking in the parking lot or you will never get a pass. Even parking in the parking lot is risky though. My sister got a parking space, and her beat up old 87 junker was broken into THREE TIMES while parked in teh parking lot. Office did nothing. Police told her to put "rat traps" in her car. THE GARBAGE MAN GOES THRU YOUR GARBAGE!!! When my sister moved out we grabbed some of her stuff from the basement, the maintnance/garbage man had a trash can full of her personal items (including OPENED mail) that she had thrown out. We reported it to the office and were told "how can you prove anything'" We have taken pictures to document this incident. The office managers son/daughter in law live in the building for practically free. The son talks to himself and was screaming at himself in the courtyard 2 weeks ago. There was a leak in the apartment on the 5th floor. It leaked all the way to the first. Our ceiling peeled and cracked for SIX MONTHS, with repeated complaints to the office to have it fixed. While I was down complaining, a man also upset about repairs needing to be done said there has been a hole in his ceiling since a week after they moved in. I asked how long he had lived there and he said 8 months. If you are looking for a cheap place to live, Mar Main is definatly one of them. But you won't want to stay here for long.
