Serious Scam
We were shown a beautiful model. They refused to show us the actual apartment, even after the old tenants had moved out. They told us it was against their policy. They told us all the units had been remodeled; we would have new or very good carpets and flooring, granite countertops, and new appliances. AFTER we put down over $100 in non-refundable fees they told us it was $75/mth for the "required" new appliances.
When we moved in the apartment was horrible.
The carpets were beaten down, smelled like dogs, had large stains (over a foot long square), and cigarette burns. The kitchen and bathroom floor were yellowed and disgusting. The countertops were a plastic colored like granite. Our washer and drier looked like it came from the 1980 s. It took over 2 hours to dry a small load of jeans. We were told it was a 2 bed/2 bath apartment. It turned out to be a 1.5 bath. We asked for a lower rent because of the missing 1/2 bath. They refused and repeatedly argued that most people prefer 1.5 baths because it s less to clean. Neither toilet worked when we moved in. It took them 2 working days to fix them. We had to sign an agreement saying that if there were any scratches on the glass top stove we would pay to replace the top. (Even though we were already paying $75/month for it) The model had much different (and newer) cabinets than our apartment. Our patio was littered with paint chips, wet cigarette butts, and a broken ashtray. It took 3 maintenance requests before they partially cleaned it up. Our apartment had bugs everywhere. Our friends would come in and refuse to come back. The exterminators had to come 3 times before the bugs were gone. One bedroom screen was way to small for the window and bugs would come in when the window was open. They told us just don t open your window. It took 2 maintenance requests before they fixed it. The break lease fee was 4 months rent (2 months were required for a notice period). It cost over $3,200 to break the lease.
In a sentence: It sucked beyond all belief.
Someone should sue them.

I would not recommend The Pointe at St. Joseph to anyone. Although the downtown location is great; poor management, poor maintenance and the lack of security reduces the only plus to a zero. Don't let the so called amenities fool you. The Pointe is a comedy of errors we are trying to forget.
