I never got a chance to move in. My husband & I had been trying to view these apartments for 4 years, but there was never a vacancy. This year there was. We were told the tenant needed to break lease due to a job transfer. She would be out by March 30th, and would be ready for our April 20th move in. Then we were told she moved out March 8th, and would have to take possession no later than April 1st. We were willing to pay the extra month rent for the apartment - it was beautiful. With the included utilities (not Nipsco), included cable and w/d in unit - it was by far the best deal in town. The complex is small, 4 police officers live there. We couldn't have asked for better. We submitted the application with fee. When doing so, I explained about any credit issues that may come up, because I feel that honesty is best. I had no desire to hide my bankruptcy. It was 6 years ago and accompanying a divorce. She told me it would be no problem. She later told us that she personally denied us because she has no one living there that has ever had a bankruptcy. Of course, this was after she cashed the check. We couldn't believe it!
Two weeks later, I spoke with a friend that had another event there. She had filled out the application and all. She had the money to move in, and plans to do so 3 days later. She went in to pay and they had rented the apartment from under her.
While the apartments are beautiful and wonderfully located, please take this advise: Keep looking and have a back up if you're looking here. No matter how sure it may seem, it isn't.
