I've lived here for a year and overall, I'm fairly satisfied. The grounds are kept up nicely. Most maintenance issues are resolved quickly. The office staff is not always friendly, but most issues and concerns are handled to my satisfaction.
I was told that the building I live in was a non-smoking building, however 2 of my neighbors smoke. The lady across the hall only smokes outside, but the man downstairs smokes in his apartment and all of my belongings now smell like cigarette smoke, too. I also live in a pet building. I only hear the neighbor's dogs if I'm in the stairwell. My own building is very quiet. There is a constant sound of water running, though. Also, the NIPSCO bill can get pretty high at times. I think something is wrong with my air conditioner, because my bill is considerably higher than what my neighbors pay. Maintenance couldn't find a problem. The building is usually pretty clean - though I don't think the staff is very consistent in how often it is cleaned.
It's near the high school, so there are usually kids cutting through the property. Parking is sometimes an issue - especially when the softball field is being used. Also, non-residents take it upon themselves to use the carports. I've come home on more than one occasion to find mine occupied by a vehicle other than my own. There is a speed limit through the complex, which unfortunately is not enforced. People speed through the complex all the time and it's VERY dangerous, especially in the dark, if you're parked on the other side of the parking lot (or in a carport/garage, since you have to cross the parking lot). Lighting could definitely be better, and perhaps the addition of more speed bumps would slow people down.
I'm moving out mainly because I'm buying a condo. The management did give me notice that if I renewed my lease, my rent would increase by $10. I think that's reasonable. For the size and cleanliness and area, Golfview is a great value. It's a beautiful area and very quiet.
