Apartment Living....

I lived here for a year with out any major problems on behalf of the staff or maintence. The only thing that ever needed to be fixed was the garbage disposal, it stopped working a few months after I moved in. I never called to request it being fixed because I rarely used it anyway. Other than that I had no major structeral/interior problems. No drafts of cold air, nothing.
The problems I had were with my neighbors. When I first moved in myself and 1 other neighbor( whom i'm still friends w/) were the only non mentally handicaped people in the building. I have no problem with mentally handicaped people, and actually volenteer at O&E to help with the mentally handicaped. I am extremly quiet and shy, and do not approach people unless they approach me. With that being said- I still had MAJOR problems. Not problems that I sought out, or picked fights with people. Just people I smiled at in the hall ways who turned crazy.
The older guy who lived in the front of the building was in his lazy-boy sleeping, with his lights and fan on, and blinds open the day I moved in. That night, he hadn't moved, the next morning same possition, that night same. For the first 3 weeks I lived there whenever I left or arrived he was in the same lazy boy his head cocked the sameway. He was malnourished and had been soil-ing himself for weeks before someone stepped in and took him to a care facility.
As I said, I have no problems with mentally handicaped people but because of their mental handicap/illness 'acceptable behavior' is non existant. Also, I am not saying that EVERYONE on section 8 is mentally handicaped. The people I had interaction with WERE handicaped. One lady told me how she was molested by aliens everynight, and that is why she screamed at the top of her lungs for HOURS on a nightly basis. The first time I heard her shrill, terrified screams I called 911. Police came out and explained that she is mentally ill, and does this all the time; it is nothing to be alarmed about. I didn't sleep the rest of that night. After a while I used to her screaming and hardly noticed it. It was like living next to rail road tracks- you just block it out after a while.
Another neighbor would follow me in a taxi, while I ran errands in my car, ate dinner with friends, grocery shopped, and listen/try to look through the peep hole of my door outside my apt, accuse me of throwing trash in his yard, letting my dog(which I don't/didn't/never will have) poop in his yard, grabbing at my brests ect... I never called the police because he was mentally handicaped, and I felt bad. I instead told the office about it. They DID tell him sternly to knock it off, and the problem went away. Regardless it was a huge inconvience for quite sometime.
I came home one night at about 3 a.m ( I work odd shifts ) went in and went to bed. At 7a.m when I got up I had nails hammered into my tires. The nails were not there the night before.
Eventually I had to get a restraining order, and moved out of the community.

Over all I liked the apartment, the location was good, and the office/maintance was always friendly. Unfortunatly I had crazy neighbors which ruined my time at Windridge. Before moving in I would throughly check out the neighbors if possible. The price was good, but 3 flat tires, a restraining order, a stalker, many tears and headach later- IT WAS NOT WORTH IT. I would highly recommend paying a little more for NON SECTION 8 housing, and keeping your sanity.
