DO NOT RENT AT MCCORMICK PLACE. The staff is awful... unprofessional and useless. I really get a kick out of the uneducated middle-aged 40 year-old ladies being paid $9/hr trying to not uphold the lease (while treating you like crap) because they don't think college kids know better.
I started renting in the Fall of 2008. Rent was $475 that year, with cable and internet "provided" (more on this later) and only the electricity bill to pay. The Big Ten Network was a big selling point when I signed my lease (Comcast was still scuffling with BTN), but it didn't work until DECEMBER. Don't worry guys, we didn't want to watch football or anything. The cable channels that "worked" often cut out or froze for days at a time. The internet decided to take a little break for about 40 seconds every 2-3 minutes. Yes, at least 25% of consistent downtime.
I resigned because they lowered rent to $400 for the '09-'10 school year, and claimed that they had signed a better ISP. BIG MISTAKE. The day I got here the internet and cable in my room and the living room DID NOT WORK. My roommate's internet somewhat functions, but it IS EVEN LESS RELIABLE THAN LAST YEAR. Didn't see that one coming! There is less than a 10% chance that you will be able to load a webpage. Good luck tacking online classes (or checking your classes online) here, folks!
Last week, the staff promised that the internet issues would be resolved by the beginning of this week. Nope. And when I called this week, the b*tch in the office claimed "nobody told you that, and I can't promise any date that the tech will have it fixed." A storm took out a few switches a few months ago, oh no! Call up Cisco, buy some new switches, and have your tech freaking install them. Apparently that tough task can take months.
Seriously, avoid this place at all costs. It's very, very clear why the rent is so low after you live here. Not worth it.
edit: Oh, and the water is disgusting. Forgot to mention that.

I agree with this review. i signed my lease back in Aug 2008, and for the first, maybe 8 months it wasnt too bad, but then they got the new management and it has not been pleasant. I use the internet alot! being a bit of a geek and downloading Netflix and such, but since the new management they switched out service providers for tv and nets and it is just terrible now! and yes the people in the office never get anything done and that also goes with the techs for anything that is related to the apartment complex.
