Yo!

Nice place to live w/some concerns

We lived at this complex for five years during grad school and enjoyed most of our time there. We liked the location, the safe and relatively quiet neighborhood, the previous management, and that most of the residents were older (grad students, couples, etc).

However, as another reviewer said, the management changed during the past year, and the complex is now run by a Texas-owned conglomerate (Greystar) that also owns Village Major and Sagamore Ridge. The new management seems to be much less considerate in terms of customer service and upkeep/maintenance. For example, there were repairs needed on the swimming pool this summer and they didn't get it open until July 6. They are also inflexible regarding lease terms b/c they're moving to a model that caters to college students only. We wanted to extend our lease for one month b/c we were in the job search process but had not gotten an offer yet. We were told that only 10-month or 12-month leases were allowed and that there were no "break lease" terms in the new lease, even if you moved out-of-state (which we did). If we had signed the lease for 10 months, we would have been responsible for paying ALL of the remaining months or finding a suitable sublessor, even if we moved out a month later. No penalties (like three months rent) could be paid instead. This all happened even when there was no one else assigned to move into our specific apartment. We finally got an arrangment set up where they let us stay an extra two weeks before we moved.

Overall, though, we liked living here very much during our time (see positives below). Time will tell how the new management works out though.

Positives:
*beautiful setting next to woods
*large porches on upper two levels
*large closets
*extra storage space & utility closets
*spacious kitchen cabinets
*all appliances are electric (no gas bill)
*enclosed entry hallways
*free water/trash/sewage
*pets allowed w/no monthly pet rent (this was prior policy at least)
*bus stop in front of complex that goes right to campus
*more mature/older residents (though it's changing towards younger)

Negatives:
*new management less responsive
*noise from US-52
*no dishwasher
*interiors outdated in fixtures & style
*inefficient baseboard heating
*no washer/dryer connections
