Used to be decent...not so great anymore

I've lived in this complex for 4 years now as a grad student and for the first 3 years, it was decent. Fairly quiet, maintenance was quick to fix things, and the grounds/laundry/pool were kept up nicely and cleaned on a regular basis. Plus, the management was somewhat flexible if you needed something, would prorate your rent if you moved in mid-month, moved out mid-month, etc.
However, once Purdue Properties took over (they own village manor and sagamore ridge), the service took a nosedive. Things definitely started reminding me of the campus rental companies that don't care about residents and don't take very good care of their properties. They promised certain requested "upgrades" for residents who re-signed leases. Too bad it took them over 6 months and half a dozen phone calls from me to actually take care of a couple of my requested upgrades (which I was informed weren't truly upgrades, merely simple maintenance requests). They waited many weeks (if not more than a month) between sweeping and vacuuming the inside hallways/stairs and cleaning the laundryroom. This meant that leaves, dirt, etc collected everywhere and looked unsightly for many weeks at a time.
It's possible that since it was a newly acquired property it took them a little time to get used to sending maintenance over to do the regular upkeep; however, it was still an ongoing problem 6-8 months after they took over the place and that should've been plenty of time.
Another problem: The neighborhood isn't as safe as it used to be. I've already had several suspicious characters knocking on my door at all hours of the night/early morning. I had to call the cops one time because a lady was trying to get me to give her a ride somewhere for an emergency (she said her grandson was sick and needed meds from a pharmacy). I told her to give me a minute to put on street clothes and as soon as I closed the door she split...so I called the cops. Apparently she didn't actually need a ride and was trying to get me to come out of my apartment where who knows what peril awaited me.
I wouldn't recommend living here anymore unless the management has stepped it up a bit and is actually taking care of the grounds, hallways, and laundry room better than they used to. If I would've rated this complex prior to the management change last year, I would've had nearly all nice things to say, but now instead of an overall 4-5 start rating, I'm docking it down to 2-3. Good luck to the rest of you who still have to live there and put up with Purdue Properties.
