not horrible, but you can do better

My first few months at Williamsburg started out well, but has increasingly got worse. The biggest issue has been maintenance and the TV cable options. They use to come right away to fix things, but now unless something is on fire you never see them; it's been a month and I'm still waiting for 3 or 4 things to be fixed. As far as the TV cable options... there are none it's either dish or you're stuck with Nova cable, because williamsburg has a contract with them. It wouldn't be so bad if nova cable wasn't overpriced, if there was digital or HD options (none), if the reception wasn't horrible, and if there was more than 60 channels, half of which are obscure and pointless. I can't wait to leave here for the cable issue alone. There is plenty of parking, but none of it is covered. I have at least 3 or 4 noisy neighbors, but that's not the apartments fault. The grounds are a little trashy looking at times and not well taken care. Some of the railings in hallways are broken and don't even get me started on the "sundeck" which was demolished by some idiot who couldn't read the clearance sign. Problem is it's been sitting fenced off for about 4 months now with no repair so it's still a hazard and ugly to boot. The place looks pretty old and some of the fixtures, cabinets, etc. need replacing and most likely you will need to have something fixed or replaced at some point because it's 30 years old. The maintenance folks are nice enough, but not much gets fixed promptly. The office staff is really nice and usually helpful, but not always the most knowledgeable.
Positives: close to purdue, plenty of parking, nice office staff, lots of extracurricular options
Negatives: overpriced, old, maintenance is horrible, and the cable is godawful
Bottom line is that the apartments aren't bad, but for the price you can find a place that is nicer and newer, which is what I'm currently looking into.

I was wondering if you have changed your opinion at all since seeing the newly renovated apartments? have you seen them? How much is Nova cable per month?

All I know is that the place I lived in was not that great so I can't speak for the newly renovated places, but I haven't heard good things. Rent is still too high for the available market in the region. I don't remember how much the cable was, but at any rate it wasn't worth it.

I live in a newly renovated apartment - it looks nice on the outside. BUT, I routinely vacuum up more carpet fibers than pet hair (and I have a black lab, which shed a lot), the painting was sloppy, and the basic foundation parts of the building are still old and in disrepair. The carpet is coming up at the edges, and you can see how old and falling apart it is underneath. The pipes are old and need to be replaced, so the water is gross and yellow all the time from what I'm guessing is rust in the pipes. Overall, it just feels like the covered up the old crappy parts instead of fixing it. Nova costs about $50/month, so a little bit more than the middle level of cable.
